Which type of lid do you like? open/flip or

Bought the TourX after LWR & this site :blast but have to say it's great for comfort/vision and looks :thumb

Have a Syncrotec but it's crap for comfort and rarely use it. Also bought a Bayliss rep Suomy but realised I looked a real twat so I just look at in my bedroom. :o

I'd be careful admitting to looking at your helmet in your bedroom, you'll be telling us you polish it next.:D:D

This might interest you, interested me.

Anyone got one of these?

What's it like?

I've got one it's brilliant.

I like open face helmets but I do feel rather exsposed - which is fair as I paid £50 for my open face.

The J1 cost me £265 from Infinity.

It's quite, the visor is optically perfect cant fault it one of the best biking things I've every brought.

Been meaning to post a thread so this one's saved me time.

I think it's safer than a full face because I see far more... observation is the key factor to saftey on a motorbike

I've been wanting to try one on but cannot find anywhere that sells them near me.

tried the importers website for stockist - hopeless list of dead links.

Found a Triumph dealer who stocked the brand - C2 for £225 but no J1's

I asked and got a funny look - had one and couldn't shift it etc.

Possibly considering a BMW enduro due to the good vision.

Travel between Stoke/derby but no luck on the J1

I'd been on the look out for one since I first saw a picture... most place didn't know what I was looking for.

Then I popped into Infinity in Great Portland Street after a meeting saw one and brought it.

my thoughts

i have a system 5 flip front
love it
my mate has the aria x
bet that was mis spelt
anyway on the way home from our european trip
i caught him glueing a magnum lolly stick
to the underside of the beak
i said what the f"*K are u doing
he said the cross winds were making it vibrate like mad at 70mph +
glad i didnt get one

1974 Stadium open face (there weren't many full-face lids around then but you could by a visor with a coloured lower section so that it looked like a full-face!).

Bought my first Shoei full-face in 1975. It cost me £40 back then and I only took home about £60 a month!

I stuck with Shoei for years and also had BMW System from II onwards.

I love Shoei, they always seem to touch in all the right places and would have stuck with them but until relatively recently, they didn't produce a flip-front. My last Shoei, an X8R is still in first class condition but I just don't wear it any more.

System II, good peripheral vision. The flat curve of the visor really helped shed water. The heated visor was a nice but very pricey bit of kit and the elements didn't last too long.

System III, better shape but a lot heavier.

System IV. Still the best System helmet IMO. The weight, peripheral vision and ventilation all work well. The best thing about it is the fact that it's really three helmets if you buy the cheek pieces and the peak.

The removal of the visor and the chin bar takes seconds, it can be worn as an open face, full face, with chin bar + peak with goggles. On a trip I carry the cheek pieces and the peak plus goggles and swap the configuration according to the use or conditions.

System V. Nice vents, except the chin bar one that is too fiddly and closes every time you touch it. Not noticeably lighter than the IV and certainly not any quieter, take the chin bar gusset out and it's very noisy. I don't like the V-shaped visor. Easier to fit ear-pieces in as it was designed with them in mind (for once). NO peak available so less options for change.

System V is a disappointment after the IV IMO. It took me much longer to get used to it than the IV and I only persisted so that I can extend the life of my IV.

tried on a system 5 today. Seemed comfortable but it felt heavy to me. Also didn't think it felt any less closet like than my current lid.

It was better than the SHu C2 though. Tried one of those and it felt over balanced at the front which is a shame.

So far I am down to two choices I think.

A BMW Enduro - because of the clear view out and price - just over £200 for plain

Or A Shu J1 - need to try one though.

They had some System 4 at Piddocks - £149

small sizes only though :(

That's so right

Actually, I think people wear them for the pose value, and because everyone else does.

Yeah that's why I bought mine, and because Ewan & Charlie wore them as well :blast

I didn't buy it because it's a 'dual sport' helmet and the GS is a 'dual sport' bike. I hate the way I can ride to Wales with the visor down, then switch to goggles for the off road bit, before riding home again with the comfort of a visor. The build quality is p1ss poor and the comfort level appalling, the peak vibrates at high speeds as well. It was completely impractical in Morocco as well. Don't buy one, they're sh1t

Well I am a sheep albeit a black one - so I've purchased an Enduro.

Sold on the excellent vision. Hopefully it will be comfortable too.

If not I'll flog it to a less well off fashion victim:thumb

Arai Sz/m for me - as used by Mr & Mrs Sorebums on their big rides - but the next helmet will be a Nolan N41. During the recent Tour de France, the French Police and other support riders wore them, mind you they didn't wear leather jackets and body armour so I guess these professional riders were irresponsible?:nenau

Got 4 lids depending on weather and use

Bell tour lite open face to go the shops (Tesco especially)

Bell motorcross for off roading

Schuberth for touring

Full face Nolan with visor for long distance and winter use
