Which UK BMW Motorrad Dealer Should Stock Roadlok?

Hi everyone,

Roadlok has grown rapidly across Europe and is now available through more than 150 dealers.

Demand from BMW GS riders in the UK continues to increase and we're currently looking at expanding our UK dealer network.

Roadlok is a permanently mounted motorcycle security system that has achieved both Sold Secure Diamond and ART 4 certification, providing premium theft protection without the hassle of carrying a separate disc lock.

We're interested in hearing from the UKGSer community:

Which BMW Motorrad dealer or independent BMW specialist do you trust most?

Which dealer would you like to see stocking Roadlok?

Which BMW GS model are you currently riding?

Would you prefer buying from a local dealer rather than online?

We're currently reviewing a limited number of new dealer opportunities across the UK and your feedback will help us identify where demand is strongest.

how do you think you'll get it into the BMW network ?
would they would want some sort of control over the product ?
warranty ? liability ?
you would not stay independent for long.
BMW aftermarket would be better ? easier ? sell to a mail-order house ?

I would stay away from BMW and go for “Nippy Normans” or “Motorworks” independent aftermarket suppliers. Tried and trusted by the GS community for years.

If the dealerships wanted your product they would be banging on your door. I don’t know what the profit margin is but I’d hazard a guess that it wouldn’t be enough. JJH

I don't think BMW dealers have autonomy to stock products that are not procured centrally. Even the Tchibo coffee beans and posh biscuits in the waiting room are from BMW GB. Dealers are very reluctant to fit any accessory that they have not supplied through approved channels.
Like Givi luggage, Puig screen deflectors etc, you will have to remain an aftermarket product through direct to consumer channels or third party retailers.

At the point of purchase Roadlok would be a great addition, removing the decision of which lock and why. I’d like to think BMW would support this necessary security feature but I don’t hold my breath. I’d like to see manufacturers do more to cripple the industry of bike theft but alas they leave it to the insurance game.

BMW Park Lane’s Battersea service workshop, offered a range of Abus locks. These were not BMW branded in any way. There again, the locks are not fitted to the bike as a permanent feature.

BMW Park Lane is of course owned by BMW itself and is not a franchise. Abus is a German company.

I’d like to see manufacturers do more to cripple the industry of bike theft….. alas they leave it to the insurance game.

The owners of the often very expensive bikes could do more to help themselves, too. Thankfully, insurers are not too judgemental, when it comes to settling often very expensive claims.

Neither motor manufacturers, nor insurers are policemen.

Motorworks is more for older model bmw bike replacement parts etc in my opinion.

The ability to source keys regardless of where you sell the actual lock would be a bonus
I’ve got TWO in a drawer where the dealer didn’t bother checking that everything was supplied with the bike they were selling.
So they’re now expensive paperweights - especially as one dealer made a point of advertising one as having the f*cking thing fitted.

I saw this reply, and it reminded me of the words the Janitor wrote a couple of years ago, below…….

Any chain (near enough) is better than no chain.

A chain is also handy when using a disc lock, where the bike is simply locked to itself. That said, a disc lock is again, better than no disc lock.

BMW network unfortunately has too many variables, with some dealer workshops incapable of answering and/or returning calls…

Roadlok could also help customers, by ‘splitting’ packs.
As in, people change bikes and dont always need all new components, only the ‘arm’ part of the mechanism ?

Exactly. One pin, one common key.
Less money for Roadlok….though I have a full Roadlok kit, with loads of different Roadlok bolts and spacers in the garage. It doesnt fit the R1300gs calliper though, and I am not prepared to shell out hundreds £ (for a third, maybe fourth time) to buy a complete assembly.

Not wanting to hi-jack the thread. The product is superb. But customer feedback is feedback…
