Hi gang,

I'm looking to upgrade in the near to not so near future and ideally I'd like to get a well sorted R1200GSA.

Having had an 1150GSA and been through the horrible servo motor removal and all that goes with it, I'm a bit wary of jumping in and buying what I can afford at the moment. Specifically, I can stretch to a 2005-2007 GSA but I'm worried that they have a servo unit and once bitten twice shy and all that.

I've been searching on here for a thread that might list all the pros and cons of each year.

Once the servo was dumped in 2008 (is that correct?) does it bring a whole other set of issues?

Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I'm more inclined to wait, save more and get a newer bike but at the same time, I am considering a 2006/2007 in alpine white but my head says no!

Leaving aside the farkles, what would be the basic asking prices for each year with moderate milage and good but not mint condition?

Thanks:thumb

If I remember correctly the servo was dropped for the 2007 models (i.e. from some time at the end of 2006) although as ABS was an option, if you don't want it then any year will do. I also seem to remember that for 2008 the service warning indicators were added, requiring a trip to the dealer or a GS-911 to suppress them. Since, by implication, you're looking for a bike that won't be enjoying expensive dealer servicing I'd suggest a 2007 model as being free from both servos and needless service warnings. Earlier bikes had more than their fair share of FD problems but there's plenty of engineers now offering rebuilds.

I have a 2006 GSA with servo, 41000 miles, three headlight bulbs and a new bolt in the centre stand. No other issues and no, it's not for sale!

push to a basic r1200gsa twin cam with heated grips and fogs if you can, no abs, no esa less to go wrong

I went for the Mark 2 because they strengthened the final drive. The pinion nose bearing on earlier models seems to be a weak point.

If you can, go for the Mk3 as most of the issues are sorted.

I have a 2005 1200GS with 40k on the clock. No problems apart from the gear indicator thingy needed removing and cleaning, and a battery went phut.
Servo fine. ABS fine.

IIRC the early bikes have a proper fuel level indicator float in the tank. Later bikes have the troublesome fuel strip.

Sorry for being a bit dumb here but am I correct in saying the mk1 is up to 2007, the mk2 (twincam) 2008_2010 and mk3 is...

try to go for an 08 on if you can,led tail light, better gear box and final drive and a small power hike over the 07.

Regarding abs, I've seen a few recently with a replaced abs pumps. Is this an issue on the mk1's only? Or do mk2's and 3's have this issue too? On the 1150's it's been suggested that the pump fails because the brake fluid hadnt been changed every year. This the same for the 1200's?

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to get my funds together and keep an eye out here.

Servo dropped for the 2007 model. I know, I've got a GSA on a private plate but originally '57. That makes the 2007 - a "Mk11". 22,000mls well sorted. Might be for sale….:roll eyes:
All 3 discs changed under warranty plus the usual EWS etc., and the bevel box rebuilt with the Big Balls mod by CW in Dorchester.
Like anything else, keep the brake fluid changed regularly and you'll have no problems:blast.
Fluff

Ive done some searches but cant find anything about the bevel box Big Balls mod. Mine has a starting to go (but still ok) rear bearing so I'd like to know what that mod is about.
