Hi I have a 2004 Adventurer which i recently purchased, There are two things that bother me one is the clutch it apears to snatch, you can here it even though the clutch lever is feels quite smooth, also there is a whine and it appears to be comming from the gearbox but there again it could be the final drive. How much play should be in the shaft drive when moving the wheel backwards and forwards
thanks guys

sorry mate, that was a bit flippant. I realise the noises concern you or you wouldnt have posted them. My 1150 has whined from the gearbox ( in 4th) for several thousand miles with no detriment. If you are comparing the clutch with a jap bike clutch it will feel very agricultural and is probably OK although I will defer to better judgement.

My 12000 mile 05 is much the same.

If I take my 1150 ADV on a long run doing good speeds, say 50 miles or more at 80mph, If I let off the throttle a bit I get a whine.

More noticable if I use engine braking when changing down the gears. Only when on long runs though:nenau

If I go to work... 15 miles and fast roads, nothing:confused:

Booked in for its 12k service in a couple of weeks. Has done it since I bought it on 4800 miles and has not got any worse :nenau

If it ain't broke.........;)

I had aterrible gear box in my n1997 1100rt, but it kept going for over thirty thousand before i saw the light (not on the road to damascus but the road to SPC) and brought a GS. Now my 1150gs 48000 miles on it, it wines in fourth as I use that gear a lot (so as to keep up, or down to the slower 1150's that are not yellow) but it goes ok, these gear boxes are agricultural but they stand up to it so don't worry, ride faster and leave the noise behind!.
