Just three bikes to get covered. I want breakdown cover and recovery home and to include the occassional jaunt in the EU.

What does the team think?

Greg

Multibike insurance from Carole Nash which would include Euro breakdown cover

Failing that, personal cover with RAC/AA etc (use Tesco Clubcard points or Quidco for a discount) then take out Euro cover as you need it.

Breakdowns....

i'd ask Jonothan or Robbo -
being in the business i'm sure they'd know a good shrink. :thumb2

I've had a quote from the RAC for European B'kdown cover ( Zones 1 & 2, which makes a big difference), and when I mentoned the BMW Owners Club, they gave me a massive discount from their original quote, so ends up at around £89 pounds for 3 weeks, or about £104 for the year. Not cheap, but it does cover for Romania, Bulgaria, Poland etc. But NOT Ukraine or Turkey, so not sure what to do about non EU countries.

£59 for this, any bike or car

Seconds to change vehicles over over via interweb

I have this policy.

Noticed it only covers roadside labour up to £50 whilst in Europe. Not sure if that's par for the course or not.

Also, annoyingly they give you an 0870 number to call. Most of the time you'll be ringing from your mobile and potentially roaming. SayNoTo0870 offers this number 01444 442299 as an alternative.

If you look at the certificate there are usually 2 numbers, one for the UK and one for Europe (starting +44). The number I have is +44 1444 442200, which I have just dialled and it works. Stick this no. in your mobile and it will work wherever you are, UK or Europe and will be included in your UK minutes/call plan.

The £50 is pretty standard. It covers 1 hours labour: if the first responder cannot get you going in that hour then the other parts of the policy kick in i.e. relay to your destination, hotel accommodation, hire car etc.

Seems they got sneakier with the current certificates. The second (Euro) number provided on my cert is simply the regular 0870 with the +44 tacked on, hence me looking for the alternate.

Anyway, seems like a good service. Hope I don't ever need to use it.

My Footman James policy for the Tiger covers UK and European breakdown

Total policy fully comp, legal cover and medical insurance is £165 this year.
called out twice in the past, R100GS with melted battery 14 miles from Dover on my way down to Provence recovered to Bolton with me in the cab.

Second time broken spoke through rear wheel on the Dominator fixed at the road side with new inner tube (£10 charge) I was paying less than £90 for the policy at that time 3 years ago. The truck that arrived was dedicated to bike breakdowns and he carried a huge range of common parts including tyres batteries and inner tubes.

Never waited more than 35 minutes and no claims not affected. Excellent service. Don't know if they offer a multi bike policy.

My own knowledge and a bag of tools!

Not a lot of good at the side of a motorway with a seized engine or major electrical failure. I suppose you could be content knowing what the problem was as you push 250kg of laden bike (bags of tools are heavy) up the hard shoulder:D

Only one way to go for me

Carol Nash multi bike policy including breakdown

Recovered my Dads bike from the top of the Stelvio pass and fitted new battery ........ charged us for the battery but thats fair enough

Recovered my Gs when FD bearing went and brought me and bike home ...

Spot on fast and efficient service ..... I dont even question the premiums now but then I am on a classic policy with the Gs added as a 2nd bike so im paying next to nothing anyway

My RAC policy DOES cover ALL of Turkey. It was specifically cleared with RAC that Zone 2 is not just "European" Turkey and the municipality of Istanbul but the whole country

That's precisely why I'd had enough of the RAC!

Having had top-$ cover from the RAC for about 20 years (home start, recovery, European cover, any vehicle etc), they said that I would NOT be covered for Turkey when I went in May.

What's more, I could not extend the cover I had - I would have to buy an entirely new policy. So I did - with the AA!

Greg,

I have used Insurance Choice (Gold cover) £69.00 had to have the bike brought back from Italy last year, submitted claim for hotels trains etc, paid up to their max limit with no problems. Flew me home and the bike followed two weeks later.

Very happy with service and about to sign up again.
