Hi everyone
Have decided that my new 08 GSA was built on Monday Morning after a long weekend of drinking.
In the 560km it has travelled:
It has used 1200ml of engine oil, (Dealer says that is normal for the bike)
It's fuel gauge has failed to work, (Dealer will fix at first service)
The engine has overheated 4 times, (Dealer says it could be a faulty sensor)
The gear indicator in the dash shows N regardless of what gear you are in, (Dealer will fix at first service)
Both the gearbox and final drive are very loud and clunky with alot of backlash, (own a 06 K1200s (best bike I have owned), so I know about bmw gearboxs and shaft drives) this thing is bad even by bmw standards
The gearbox has a habit of locking itself in 3rd or 4th gear, with shift lever jamed solid, to fix have to stop bike, put on stand, grab back wheel and move it back and forward while applying pressure to shift lever ( Dealer has promised to fix this at first serice)
Bike will only start using plastic key, (Dealer will fix at first service)
The dealer does not want to see the bike until it has travelled at least 1000km and has promised to fix on faults found, as they say it is normal to have a few problems on a new bike and they want to fix them all at the first service
Just hope the 09 K1300s and 09 GSA are better,
So who else has a bike that should be painted yellow?

The gearbox problems are verging on the "dangerous" - I'd be taking the bike back to him now and rejecting it on that basis.

Al :)

Why are you waiting for the faults to be fixed at the first service:nenau

Just read the last paragraph:blast

The dealer might not want to see it yet, but what we want and what we get are frequently different, take it back and leave it there until the faults are fixed, you appear very calm about it.

Plus One

Dealers Door !!!! Get it Sorted Oh and by the way you'll be needing a loan bike!

Do not get fobbed off by them

Unlees you have dates and contact names and a log of the items discussed? If the dealers a bit of a Shiester may tell you that you have no comeback since you have ridden 1000kms and he has no record of complaints!!

Watch yer back!

+1

Would they have this approach if it was their own demonstrator?

I get the impression that most of us with new ’08 bikes have had some issues, but sounds like you have had particularly bad luck.
I would head back to the Dealer and insist the bike is fixed now. Also, you should insist on a loan bike and try and haggle some sort of compensation.
Just remember, the bike is fantastic once it works properly!
Good luck.

take it back now.........no messing and tell them to put it right....no way would i wait........

Sold my 2008 1200GSA about 2 hours ago:clap:bounce1

Thank god, after reading that lot, although mine has been ok

Reject it!

It's not of merchantable quality!

If you've got all this now, what's going to crop up further down the line (once you're out of warranty)?

If you keep it, when you come to sell it (assuming you do so through a BMW dealer) they'll know from the records what it's been like and you'll get a lesser trade in figure.

Just reject it.:rob

I agree with everyone else, I would be asking for a new bike, end of. You've bought a brand new expensive BMW, it should be 100% perfect.

cant beleive it

take it back
tell em to fix it NOW
dont take any crap
if u do
NAME AND SHAME THE DEALER
good luck :thumb2

Reject it mate I had a new bike after a nightmare with my 05 55 GS1200, now my replacement is near out of warranty its time to say goodbye to BMW JUNK :ronno & go back to a jap bike :beerjug::beerjug:

I agree with all the above and would take it back and tell the dealer to get it sorted. By the way, time to name and shame the dealer !

Funnily enough, when I recently was in germany. I found this when raking through the bins for discarded pornography.

Nice Den - but take it to the pub eh? :thumb2

Greenthinker, by the way nobody's said welcome to the forum :thumb

I can't stop thinking about how bad this actually is. They've given you a real lemon there, riddled with faults that pretty much beat anything else I've read on here. I wouldn't even ask for it to be repaired. Frankly I wouldn't blame you if this puts you off BMW's in general, but they're not all like that, honest :)

I thought that was funny, though it's even funnier with just that comment and no picture to back it up :D:D
