Who else here has a 1200GS SE (2009)??

Rise up young man, rise up. Why go down in life when you can rise up.

Order a pair of Altberg boots with bigger heels.

Job done.

Congrats Justin.:thumb If you have room, get one of these -

I have one, and it makes really light work of turning the bike around. I have the large one, which is better for the 1200GS.:beerjug:

Or if you don't wish to spend £63,get two circular trays make sure their wide enough to take the centre stand, put about 80ml of old oil in one place the other on top and Bob's your uncle.

@Mike R - is that the Sargent LOW seat? or regular? is it a lot lower than the standard SE seat?
fyi Justin Im reliably informed that the low seat is 2" lower than the standard.
Incidently you dont have to go for a sargent (although they are comfy over long distances) low GS seats come up all the time on ebay or here in the fs&w section.
Enjoy your bike.:beerjug:

@Mike R Thanks for the info!

I also have a 32" inside leg, so the low might be too low.

My concern is that sitting on a GSA I can only tip toe, and believe the seat height of the 09SE is 870-890 which is as high... do you remember your SE seat being much higher than your Sargent?

So rather than a low, maybe I should look for a standard seat?

The bike won't arrive for another week, but don't wanna be struggling with a high seat when I'm taking it out for first time!

@rt001 That looks real cool, great idea, first I'll see how I get on, if I can turn it in a 3 pointer I can live with that!

@Pablo1 thanks, I'll take a look there as soon as I decide on regular or low :)

I gotta say - this forum is really great, I've had loads of friendly advice in the last few weeks on all sorts of topics. Much appreciated y'all :)

Love It

I absolutely love this colour scheme. I am midway turning my Desert Yellow into a moody matt black, I have a carbon fibre tank cover but not sure about it.

I have a cunning plan which involves experimenting with vinyl wrap.
reckon I could do it for £50, Anyone else "wrapped" their bike yet?
I don't mean around a lampost either :augie

Here is something similar from the US of A on ADV.

:rob:rob:rob:rob

When I bought the 09GS I had a twin cam GSA in the garage with a low Sargent. I needed the low Sargent on the GSA to be secure when stopped.

The low Sargent was arguably to low for me on the SE because of the seat to pegs distance. I found I was always riding the SE at the expense of the GSA so I sold the Adventure and used the money to build the SE clone (plus a considerable wedge in the bank).

I cant tell much difference between the height of the standard Sargent and the standard seat on the SE even though the SE has the Adventure, slightly higher seat as standard.

Until I got the Sargent I tended to ride with the SE seat in the low position without any height problems. It is certainly not as high as the GSA which has longer suspension.

If you ride the SE with the standard seat and find the seat height to be OK and comfortable, stick with it. If the height is right, but you find you need more comfort, investigate the Sargent. They do come up on here and eBay but you have to be quick. The advantage of buying this way is that if you do not get on with the Sargent you can turn it around with minimal or no financial lose.

Hope this helps

Mike

To answer original question I have one:

Now on 42k miles & still loving it

Mods have been mudslinger (sadly not saltslinger in recent weather), front mudguard extender & Migsel mount for Zumo 660

Also recently upgraded to Wilbers ESA following nasty oil leak of OEM rear shock

Hope you find some great roads to enjoy it!
