At 7k per year you would be as well to keep the GS, its got a few good years left in it yet...:augie

But reading between the lines, its good to hear the economy is on the up since I left last November....

There are more dealers than Kearys :aidan

Maddocks, Joe Duffy and Charles Hurst up north, try them all

Is you buy for example in Joe Duffy's is your bike covered during warranty in other BMW dealers?

Hang tough........

I'd hate to be the last person to sell my bike cheap just before the prices start to rise again, the surplus of bikes will dry up. Hang on to yer bike for another 12 months.

Sounds good to me jjh

just my 2 cents....

To me it has a value that transcends commerce....
sums up my feelings on both my R100GSand my Guzzi.
However,
Bikes are an emotional decision rather than an economic one ...
Never!
(for me) as my wallet, brain and heart have a big fight every time i change Bikes. :blast
given my limited budget it HAS to be a 'sensible' purchase or it simply does not happen.

and so far, so good. :thumb2
But i cannot see me ever being in the same league, purchase wise as the posters before me.

Tax

Just out of interest, the massive tax you guys pay in Eire wouldnt it be better to come to blighty buy a Steed then ride home,or do you have to pay it if you bring stuff in?..:Motomartin

have to pay vrt on anything bought in uk unless you can prove ownership of item and then get away without paying it

We have to pay registration tax when changing the UK bike onto Irish plates.

The current rates are €2 in respect of each cc up to 350 and €1 for each cc thereafter. The total amount is then reduced by prescribed percentages in accordance with the following table to take account of the age of the vehicle.

<table summary="Table showing the % reduction in VRT taking into account the age of the vehicle. Column 1 shows the age of the vehicle and column 2 shows the VRT reduction"><thead><tr><th id="age">Age</th> <th id="reduction">VRT Reduction</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr class="alt"> <td headers="age"> <abbr title="greater than">> </abbr>3 months and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 1 year</td> <td headers="reduction">10%</td> </tr> <tr class=""> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 1 year and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 2 years</td> <td headers="reduction">20%</td> </tr> <tr class="alt"> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 2 years and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 3 years</td> <td headers="reduction">40%</td> </tr> <tr class=""> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 3 years and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to4 years</td> <td headers="reduction">50%</td> </tr> <tr class="alt"> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 4 years and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 5 years</td> <td headers="reduction">60%</td> </tr> <tr class=""> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 5 years and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 7 years</td> <td headers="reduction">70%</td> </tr> <tr class="alt"> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 7 years and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 10 years</td> <td headers="reduction">80%</td> </tr> <tr class=""> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 10 years and <abbr title="less than">< </abbr> or equal to 30 years</td> <td headers="reduction">90%</td> </tr> <tr class="alt"> <td headers="age"><abbr title="greater than">> </abbr> 30 years</td> <td headers="reduction">100%</td></tr></tbody></table>

So for example a 2008 GSA priced @ £9,500 and today being the 16th of April.

If registered on the 15th April 2008, VRT = €912
If registered on the 17th April 2008, VRT = €1216

So the total price of the bike would be either €11758 or €12062

A few days make a big difference.....!

importing to Ireland;

you can add VAT at (?) 21% on top of the price if the vehicle has less than 6000 kilometres on it.
coz then it's classed as brand new innit.

who said bmws hold there value ?
just been to kearys in cork and decided to get a value for my bike
im still feeling weak from the shock
my bike is a 08 1200gs (new model) just two years old with 14k on clock fully loaded with all factory options available that cost me just shy of €19k when bought new
offered for it as trade in against new bike €9,200
yes €9,200
i know theres a recession on but surely not that bad
or maybe im living behind the times

Some change since I traded my 05 gs1200 for a new 06 gs1200. Only time I bought new. Rang for a price on service and tyres and ended up with a brand new bike for €1500
