using a pirated version of xp pro and I still get my updates from ms, I just use the Windows Genuine Advantage dll crack to get around it. Once ms stop that one and i get the warning popping up on my pc saying that i am using a dodgy copy of windows i just run another bit of software and it gets rid of that as well.

I tried to download an update from Microsoft's site using a GENUINE copy and license number of Windows XP but I was told that my license was not genuine. The way I got round it was to download the update using my other NON-GENUINE copy of Windows and it went through fine... go figure??

IIRC, there was a thing about if you change the PC's configuration by a certain amount after installing windoze, it wouldn't recognize the PC and would think you're on a different machine....I had a similar prob a few years back with my last machine..new GPU, two new HDD's, lots of other stuff added..it was essentialy a new PC in the same box so when I had to reload windoze, it didn't allow me to do so until I called MS and they gave me a new serial to use with my OEM CD.

heard of a few instances of that happening.

In the end I also changed the CD Key that I had used on my legit Windows to one that was not legit and I could then download the updates on that PC fine as well

Very over the top, particularly if the Register is right, and copyright is not that big a deal in Sweden. 50 cops? Time will tell, but I wonder which particular corporate noses piratebay got up?

it seems to be the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) that usually jumps on the bittorrent stuff.

i only ever downloaded 1 film from bittorrent: Jarhead, it was shit.

I own a fully legit copy of XP Pro but don't use it ... I have a blag "corporate" version installed instead as it doesn't keep asking me to call some eejit at Microsoft everytime I format and reinstall or if I change a few bits of hardware ... justifiable thievery I think...
