Who would go out and buy another 1200gs...please be honest.

Hi Chaps,

mines done 7,300 miles. Single fault with the ABS pump replaced. Very happy with the bike.

Most other bikes I've had have gone thru' the 'honeymoon period' where you just can't stop riding it, then things calm down. The R1200GS is different, in that the honeymoon just continues!

Best bike I've ever had and I'd have another without question.

NO - I would buy an 1150 Adventure, which I should have bought in the first place. Reason - I think the 1150 is a better bike that has true off road capability and will stand up to far more abuse than the 1200.
 
Best bike Ive every ridden or owned, no hesitation in buying it again. Fantastically capable machine and blows Honda build qulaity myths to pieces.
 
Yep, would buy another. 2k since January and no problems.

There's only one other bike that pushes it close in my opinion, the 1150GS!

Can't chose between them.

Short answer: Yes, 26,000 km and loving it

Longer answer: I tend to compare bikes a lot. Not in terms of performance figures etc. but in terms of what my performance criteria are. My criteria are reliability, longevity and real world performance, comfort and fun. BIKE's long-term rider, another sportbike rider, put it well. The 12GS makes 100 mph fun again.

I've owned over 20 bikes, ridden for 17 years and I haven't seen or owned a bike that fits me better. I ride with an eclectic group, 3 mid displacement cruisers, 1 other adventure bike and various sportbike riders. This past Sundays ride confirmed it for me. We did 600 km going up into the Calaboogie ski mountain resort area. I was more comfortable than anyone (heated grips/vest while only wearing a t-shirt plus comfortable ergos), as fast as when I rode sportbikes and frequently faster than some of the sportbikers (we never exceeded 180 kph) and had the most complaint suspension (people were complaining of bottoming out on a particularly bumpy road while I floated over bumps). The torque off the line surprised many of my riding buddies and they loved the carrying capacity of the luggage. Versatility without peer is what this bike says to me.
 
Yip, unequivocally.

Screen buffeting isn't great, but you get used to it - it's a given with any upright riding position and minimal screen. I use a Cee Baileys for winter, which works well, at a price.

Practical and comfy for hundreds of miles two-up, or used on traffic clocked commutes. It's economical and I've had zero faults.

In addition, I've been hanging with track-day addicted friends on their 748, ZX6/9R's and Gixer thou's recently - and none of them can believe that the GS often leaves them 'all' for dead on twisty b-roads, at ahem, 'interesting' speeds and roadcraft interpretations shall we say :D

I've ridden every GS variant, and owned a couple. In their own ways and brief there's not a bad one among them irrelevant of model or capacity; however I know which is the most modern and manageable for a varied amount of disciplines; and after demo'ing five new for '05 models already this year, there's no need to change the R1200GS - it's simply the best GS ever, no question.

Had a ride of the new RT today. I will stay with my GS. Did not like the bike at all.
The 1200gs is such a great bike. You have to try other bikes ever so often just to confirm how great the bike is.
 
I only need one, thanks, so no I wouldn't unless to replace mine.

Ace bike and works for pretty much everything from long distance to commuting into London to hooning around to, well, pretty much everything except serious dirt

If I had an extra US$15K just laying around, I'd get one for my wife as well.

Without a doubt. The lower seat, and lighter weight made it the first choice. Had a 650 before. Wondering what the 1200 adventure will be like.

Had my 1200 for close to 8 weeks...I love this bike and would only sell it if BM came out with the 1200 Adv.

Regarding the Starcom...love it. Works a treat with my MP3 player and with earplugs in...I shared my install experience on Advrider.com

“Would I buy another GS?” Probably not. I actually love the bike. It does everything I ask it to. It is comfortable. It is reasonably fast. I can take it down dirt roads. I can tour on it. I can commute on it. I can take it for a Sunday afternoon fun ride. It is a fantastic motorcycle. But I started thinking about the question and I realized that I have never bought the same motorcycle twice. I’ve purchased several BMW’s but they were all different. I’ve purchased several Ducati’s but they were all different. Every time I trade, I trade for something different. It makes life more interesting. I will always have a BMW but each new BMW will be different.

I've had my fair share of problems with it!!

But that said... Its a gr8 all rounder when its working :D :D

And... unless someone produces a better bike than the 12GS... I WILL purchase another... ;)
