After over a week of mulling it over (see my thread on, "Advice re trail riding with a GSA", in the 1200 section), have today booked on the World of BMW, Moroccan Desert Adventure tour in Sept/Oct this year :bounce1:bounce1.
Did the BMW off-road course in July last year (on a 1200Gs) but only took my 08 GSA off-road for the first time last week. Had done a bit with my 650 Dakar. Must try and build up my confidence over the next few months.
Anyone else here going on the tour?
Cheers :beerjug:
Geoff

Just a note re my previous past. Did consider Moto Morocco's excellent, competitively priced, tour but the BMW one suited me better on dates.
If you're in the market, give 'em a call cos I think they have room on their Nov trip.
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff, I have signed up for this trip for much the same reason. Particularly looking forward to the offroad sections after looking at previous ride reports but just hope I am fit enough to cope. Did my off road course in August last year and had a great time even though I was fairly wrecked by the end of the second day. Have been doing a bit of offroad work on my GSA but nothing like we encountered in Wales. See you at the Plymouth ferry.

Subject to getting this fecker off in time I shall be joining you guys -

You got the phone call then. Will need to start looking at other options if it is bad news on Friday. I would of thought they could have run it with the numbers they have as it will be a bummer if it is cancelled. If any one has been thinking about joining the world of bmw Morocco trip in September get in touch with them asap. There are 5 signed up at the moment and they are saying that it needs 1 more to run.

I'm booked on this trip as well, all fired up & ready with only a few weeks to go now & then got the call yesterday.Hope someone jumps onboard for this one to make up required numbers.Looked at maybe doing the Tunisia trip if this one is cancelled, but that seems to have been postponed 'till 2010.

I'm surprised that they've not put up some late deals, it might be all it takes to get that extra one and make sure the trip actually happens...

sounds like it would be a good sized group to go in too...

:( It's shit when a tour has to be cancelled but I do know where they're coming from....I had to cancel one trip last year but fortunately the people signed up for it were able to move to another trip so it worked out OK.

I hope this does go ahead for you guys, I really do...I know Roy pretty well and I think it's be fair to say we have a good working relationship (And he's not a bad egg either :D) so I hope you do get good news on Friday.

If you don't however, We have places available on our November trip that I'd be happy to reserve for you......I know cancelling a trip can be a pain for all sorts of reasons so if any of you have lost any money on this (deposits, flights etc) I'd be happy to take that off the cost of our tour so that you don't lose out......though hopefully WOBMW will sort that part out for you :)

It'd be a change of plan and dates and everything but at least it may get you out there which is the main thing :thumb2

Good luck for Friday chaps :)

Bill, Moto Morocco Ltd

(watch out this weekend.....I'm still hoping to go live with the new website which should give you a load more info)

Roy...you know my number ;)

Fingers crossed it goes ahead fella's. I'm going with a couple of other guys on a non-organised trip on Sep 30th, so you could always give that a go. Obviously no-where near as organised as a proper lead trip, but there's loads of info out there these days if you do want to go it unescorted...

WOBMW have now confirmed that the tour is on despite only running it for only 5 bikes, now all I need is to get my plaster off my leg and I’m ready to go - :JB

Good news. Just had a call from Richard and they have decided to run the tour with the numbers they have at the moment. Thanks for the other offers. As always its good to know that ukgser's will step in and offer assistance when required. :)

Got called this morning to say trip is ON,great news.Like to offer thanks to to others for offers of joining their trips.

Anyone else going from south-east area?:)

Hi guys
Been in the 'States for three weeks and, wot with the phone calls flying around over the past two days, I only got around to looking at this thread today.
Pleased to be in touch with you two who are also on the tour. When I get a minute I'll pm each of you with my contact details.
Obviously we're all now up to date with the tour's status. Good news; I too was well sickened with the Weds phone call. Heard from WofBMW office staff and Richard Harvey this morning.
Hermannator - yep, I still feel a bit nervous about the off-roading but, nevertheless, still looking forward to the trip. Had a day of off-roading on the North Yorks Moors since my original post and came out of it unscathed (bike too) despite shitty conditions.
Have spoken with the tour leader on a couple of occasions. A friend of his is also on the trip, so, with you two and me, that makes four, so only one candidate is still unknown. Of course, he/she could be one of those folks NOT on this forum! May not be a GS rider (PDiddy!) - just kidding! How's the leg doing?
Understand that paperwork will be on the way next week.
Have a booking for the TKC80s to be fitted at Rainbow Motorcycles the week before we go.
Bit frustrated at the moment cos if I ride the bike too much between now and then, it'll be overdue for its 12000 service before I get back. I reckon I can only afford to average 100 miles per week from now 'til D Day. Bugger these short service intervals!
Be in touch.
Is the mystery fifth rider out there anywhere?
Cheers :beerjug:

Hi again Richard
Can't pm you cos you don't seem to be a subscriber (have pmd you other two guys).
If you wish, give me a call on 07785 790034 and I'll give you the rest of my contact details.
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I broke my ankle in 2 places 2 weeks ago, funnily enough I was on a BMW Level 1 course with SWMBO to give her some moral support (been riding off road for quite a few years and have done a number of the BMW courses but this is the first time I’ve ever broken anything :() , the front end of the G650X washed out with the bike’s gear lever pushing the full weight of the bike onto my ankle resulting in some pain, this was around 10:30 in the morning and I managed to complete the first day before resigning myself to the fact that I needed to attend A&E (prompted by SWMBO :wife and the fact I’d turned green and nearly passed out after removing my boot :barf). I’ve another 10 days without being able to put weight on the ankle followed by another 2 weeks being able to walk on it, the cast comes off 2 days before the East Midlands event with only a week and half before the tour starts.

I took the 1200 ADV to Morocco a couple of years ago, which is where I first met our tour leader Dave (top bloke although the XXXs at the end of his text messages are a little unnerving :toungincheek) - LINKY

This time around I will be taking the KTM 950 SE, which i feel is going to be a real laugh in the sand - :JB:

Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the guys.
