Perhaps they are salting the roads further north, but not around here just yet. Not sure when they will start, but it must be soon as they are predicting low temperatures in the next couple of weeks. It's been fairly mild so far.

I washed the bike thoroughly today and have coated the important bits with ACF-50. First time using this stuff, but I recall my RT developed spot rust fairly quickly during last winter so I want to avoid that this time round.

Used a brush as spraying it on was a bit haphazard. Careful not to go near the brakes.

Next wash is next spring. :thumb

Anyone else doing the same?

Was going to do exactly the same today but got caught up in family things so it'll have to be next weekend now. Same as you, I found spraying a bit hit and miss when I did the ACF thing last year so resorted to brushing it on. Well worth the effort though and the peace of mind :thumb

already spraying fs 365 on the bike every night, and have been since early november, nothing like being prepared :D

I'm starting to like the smell of the stuff on hot exhaust pipes

Only thing i don't like is that the fs spray is water based, so if it pisses down i have to go over the bike thoroughly, usually i just give the engine and other bits a quick top up spray.

is that acf50 any better then?

Yep. Will be doing mine within the week. Got my ACF 50 couple of months ago, and a big tub of lithium grease. :thumb

I used Scottoiler FS365 last year on my 850r and it went through winter commuting with superb results. It really did stop any corrosion, :thumb
All I did was wash off thoroughly at the weekends and re apply it, also a squirt once or twice with a hose pipe if it wasn't too cold.

It's my first winter on the 1150GS so am going to do same with FS365, but have also brushed ACF50 onto the bolt heads as an extra precaution.
Just hope to avoid the black ice and diesel spills this year at roundabouts  Slow and smooth slow and smooth ! :eyesdown

FS365 vs ACF50

I use to use FS365 but found the same thing, it washes off.

From all reports ACF50 stays on all winter. And it creeps as well which is why you need to be careful with wheels. I saw a bike last winter with it on and it was filthy but if you ran your finger over it, it was perfect underneath.

I am brushing this grease on all exposed bolts because on my last bike they corroded and discoloured badly. Its heat resistant and cheap. Probably overkill, as the ACF 50 would do the same job. Like you i used FS365 on my last bike and it didn't really do much.

I was thinking of leaving the bike with a nice thick layer of mud.

That should keep the salt off the shiny bits. :thumb

Sorry, but what is ACF 50 and where can i score some from? Sounds like a good drop of gear. Thanks. :)

Nippy Norman sells it. Its a protective anti corrosion spray. It comes in aerosol cans, but as others in this thread have said, it is easier to apply using a brush rather than by spraying it on. I used it for the first time last winter on my 1200 and it really worked. Gave it the treatment at the weekend in readiness for when the bad weather comes.

So once the ACF 50 is applied do you wash the bike at all or do you let it get dirtier and dirtier until the salt has gone?

I've got one of these, should last through till January :D
I was searching for WD40 and saw this, hope it doesn't get this bad

There are other threads on this site where people discuss the use of ACF vs the other stuff.

From all reports you leave it on all winter as it forms a protective coat. In Spring or when they stop salting the roads you can then wash it off. As below the bike I saw was clean and rust free under the surface muck.

I am - starts first time :D

Did the all over ACF50 a couple of weekend's ago. Worked a treat last winter, so expecting the same this year.
