Yesterday, whilst balancing my throttle cables, I managed to shear the bolt off inside the spring-loaded cam on the throttle body. Now I can't get it out, and will have to disassemble the whole bloody lot, drill the old bolt out, and buy a new throttle cable and rethread the whole thing (the throttle cable adjuster is not available on its own).
In my defence, I didnt try turning it very hard. hardly at all in fact. obviously dont know my own strength, or else its made from cheese. The part that came off looked pretty corroded and seized. ho-hum. Anyway, I had a thought, how about starting a sticky for idiots such as myself, posting tales of DIY-repair woe, which may state nothing but the blindingly obvious to those better educated than myself, but would serve as good warning to other hapless DIY numpties who only learn by trial and error of what NOT to do when trying to "repair" your bike.
Lesson 1: DON'T just keep trying to force seized bolts by brute force. You may regret it.
any thoughts/similar experiences?
