Why are GS riders such complete nob ends?

Whatever happened to the diesel Enfield?

So really good to hear from you ........... you've made my year !!!!

I've looked for you on the internet but to no avail.

Peter (Petcul of this parish) - the nicest Irishman you could ever wish to meet ....... and there are lots of them.

The only good thing was I met up with JohnnyBoxer again at his funeral. Peter knew every back road in Northumberland.

We must talk soon (y)

This really has made my day !!!!

That he did I have a fond memory of him, he was just an inspiringly nice person. I don't recall him being that old, getting on a bit but not massively so, how did he go?

Now who else, there was Mort and his mate Collin. I remember Mort telling me off for peeing in a bush. Funny what sticks in the mind!

That diesel Enfield... now that's going back some. I tried so hard to make it work, got it down to Genoa, Italy, where I ran out of injectors (I had like 10 spare as I knew it was a problem) and was stranded for 2 weeks waiting for DHL to deliver some from China. Somewhere in France the air-filter welds failed and it fell off. It was insufferable. The bolts vibrated out of the alternator, it got spun around some and iirc I had no electrics north of France riding back. Finally on the A1 the engine frame welds failed and I remember doing 20mph on the hard-shoulder Leeds up. I sold it for next to nothing. Let that be a lesson to anyone thinking about putting a cement mixer engine into a bike!

Bob, we'll have to catch up for sure, are you still in the same house that I visited in once? I moved to Berwick for the quiet life. You'll not find me on the internet I've done my best to stay in the shadows!

And so seven years comes and goes, how are you Bob?

I just learned Peter departed, RIP that top man, but I also see Chris Kelley hasn't posted in years and hope it's not a double bad news I hope. :(

Forry as well, where did he get to? I actually moved up his neck of the woods to Berwick.

Me, I'm 42, grey and boring as **** now. I reminisce with a degree of fondness however.
Chris K is in fine form and Forry is back on a 1150 GS Adv in recent weeks

Apart from that it’s all normal

Mort had now taken to the cloth and is now Pastor to the fallen

Colin and Georgia are still riding, albeit on CB500x nowadays and I saw them in 2024 in Moffat

Petcul was indeed the nicest bloke you could meet and passed at 84, in his garden

Bob, look what I found!...

Sounds like Forry is trying to turn the clock back. I question whether I could lift a 1150gsa up these days, but if I do get another bike I'll take him to the infamous bog area he used to try drowning me in and he can show me how it's done.

My update is basically... I tried going RTW on the scooter about 10yrs ago, the engine imploded in India and I ended up doing the rest by bicycle. I'd always been a cyclist as a kid and it resparked the love of it. I never went back to teaching and started IT contracting all over the place whilst also starting a little business around another interest of mine, electrical engineering, which give birth to https://www.igaro.com

Now I'm into touring cycling when I can, earlier was in Asia last year rode Tanzania across to Angola. Trip before South Africa & Namibia. It's tough but the exercise makes you feel great after 6-7 weeks.

A friend in Greece from university days emailed in. It's been over 10yrs since we did a m/c trip and he's asking about another in the summer. That got me looking into what's changed and what I might buy for the trip and then I remembered this place and here I am.

We should try to get a meet-up arranged some-time some-place, there must be so many stories. I'd host up here but not quite yet as I've got a new kitchen going in, bit of a bomb-site for the next few weeks. Could do somewhere Newcastle region I'm down every so often and can tie it in with something else.

Cheers!

Andrew

What a plonker! I definitely had something wrong with me in my early 20's. Different times though eh?, less worrying and a body that didn't ache getting out a seat for a start.

Good to hear ChrisK is still kicking, I never doubted it for a second, despite knowing how much he loved an overly large fry-up... three times daily. I'd forgotten that he began making videos of rambling but I do remember they were ungodly boring! :D Did he give up his spotless 1200GS or did he leave for another reason? Skinny?!? fat chance!
I believe Mr K still has the yellow 1200 in his garage, no idea when it will see tarmac next!

I keep bumping into Mort in Tom Conway's shop, firstly when he was working there, but more recently as he's back on the road as a Rep for Bike It.
He's gone all chopper club now.

FaceBook seems to be the best way to keep track of the characters once they move on from here.
Running through some of the old posts from BWTI in 2010 etc, there's not many left owning a GS at this stage!
Ducatis, Hondas, Guzzi etc
Strange how habits and trends change.

I had a 45 minute chin wag with Bob on the phone a few weeks back. I'm scouting for a bike though I don't think my heart will have the love for them like before. Shall see!
