not being able to live with a rounded grub screw in the clutch bleeder, i replaced it with a nipple. Air in system so bled it,pumped clutch a few times, held it to bar and cracked open nipple (with clear pipe on and end in fluid) noticed small bubbles travelling back into nipple when i had the nipple closed. pics attached. is the nipple not sealing? no fluid loss (that i can see) . how does the black end i removed differ to nipple. what to do next? cheers in advance

Looks like the pointed stub is too long.

Have a look for 'Chris Shaw' engineering for pics of stainless to match with.

like this one?
pic from the wrong side, reckon its shorter?

It might be a bit, plus I've done the same job as you and ordered the kit when I snapped the bleed off the rear calliper (found that yet? ;) ) and it worked a treat.

Well worth changing the lot (particularly the rear):thumb2

You said you saw bubbles, does the clutch work, is there any leak at all?

clutch is slipping in top gear, lever feels soft, only engages when almost fully out. as i said did get some air out, but bubbles defo travelled back up hose and i'm presuming into system?

Hmm I cheated as I've got a vacuum bleeder

Your going to have to bleed it again, don't try the car brake trick of holding te lever in as it will bugger te spring plate of the clutch.

Not sure why it's slipping, you should have disengaging issues not slipping?

Was the master cylinder losing fluid before you bled the system Eire?

If so, you have a different problem altogether. :(

I thought it was to get rid of a buggered Allen head, clutch contamination would be a PITA!

Unless it's air heating up and expanding...

Might rescue it with the starter out and a flush with brake cleaner if it is leaking

I've not lost any fluid. no obvious leaks, and fluid clear not murky. was thinking my clutch was knackered, hoping not! want to bleed the shit out of it before spending

Bad news fella, air in system cannot cause clutch slip, it can only be contamination of disc, weak spring or worn out disc friction linnings.

Really? Did u hear that? That was my bubble bursting. Cheers

Even if its not disengaging fully? Biting point is way out. Am I clutching at straws?

Right, to clarify, had no issues with clutch slip till I went at replacing rounded grub screw. When I took off black thing in pics above (whats it called btw) the clutch was pumped, i'd love to say by a mate, but it was me, thought the ballbearing bleed thing was Still there. Hence me thinking its air in system. Does this help any? Or just prove i'm a div? Thanks for replys so far.

Ok this puts a different twist on the problem. Sounds daft, but when you try to bleed the clutch does the fluid in the reservoir actually drop?

With any luck your a Div with a bit of wind in the line:green gri

Expanding with heat if your lucky:thumb

Funny how long it takes for the 'full' story to emerge ;)

When you do the job you
- first pull the lever
- then open the nipple and let fluid and bubbles come out
- then you close the nipple and
- THEN first reliese the lever.
And you will do this so many times untill no bubbles come out.
This way no bubbles can travel back to the system.

Did you do like this?

Exactly like that. And with lever in or out bubbles travelled back up to nipple. Hence my question! Bled a clutch on a vmax before and it was a piece of piss. This one however is starting to bug me.
