Why does Zumo tell me to turn too early?

I find my Zumo says "TURN LEFT" or "TURN RIGHT" approximately 300 yards before the actual junction, regardless of whether it is the next turning or not. Its extremely off putting, and I've turned down more wrong roads than ever as a result. The only way round it I've found is to turn the sound off or double check the map before turning.

I'm sure my 2610 waits until you are actually at the junction before saying the same thing, and at 300 yards would say something like "in 300 meters, turn left".

Is my Zumo unique, or do they all do that now?

I suspect that it's something to do with how quickly you are moving towards the junction.

Try slowing down a bit!

Previous Garmin units IIRC would give the distance at each reminder until the last one, ie turn now or I'll be "recalculating". My zumo though does not give distances for the last two turn onto .... which caught me out a few times :(

Mine does not do that, so I'd guess yours is broken or some setting is wrong.

When it says turn, does the map show that you're already at the road? or is the road up ahead? Perhaps the newer firmware has a setting for how far in advance it will warn you.

thanks for the invaluable responses! I particularly like the idea of a 300 yard long stick, but fear the requisite supports would be cumbersome.

Definitely nothing to do with speed - it happens at all speeds

When it says "Turn Right" the map clearly shows me 2/300 yards away from the junction... luckily.

Something's not right :rob

When you look in the set up folder what maps have you got selected/ticked ?

I reckon it must have been supplied set up for a modern motorcycle, perhaps you could set the default speed settings to 'agricultural machinery':D
