Why I think the adv bars fitted to an 1150 are great if you tour two up.

You`ll be needing more than fecking crashbars if you`re seriously considering riding that monstrosity anywhere.

I`ve never seen a bike packed more dangerously and amateurishly in my life.

Reporting back to ukGSer after a cracking trip.

Weird!? :eek After 1200mls over two weeks of riding and camping, nothing fell off, nothing melted, no fuel lines were bust, nothing ground out, we didn’t fall off, everything got used (bar one or two minor items), the weather was fantastic and given it was packed in such an "amateur" fashion it worked brilliantly giving the low CofG I was after, there was even room for extra beer and wine up front! Nice! I will be using the same method on our next trip :thumb2
Different countries, different attitudes eh? Most of the English folk we met made sarcastic comments about the looks of my bike - "Brought the kitchen sink with you!" - Oh Ha-dee feckin ha that's original :sleep whilst the French, Spanish and Americans we bumped into were interested, chatty and complimentary! - "where you going/been?" + "cool bike" + "can I take a photo?" :)
Thanks for all the derogatory comments to the OP folks and for the photos :tosser we did it anyway and it worked well. I did act on Fanum & Timolgra's comments though, about heat being a problem (cheers guys) and I made up some heat shields. They worked too, even in +35degs the Eng temp only went 1 RID bar above normal in stop start hot city traffic and the bags didn’t even get remotely hot. Maybe it wouldn't work in the Sahara but we weren't in the Sahara!
I doubt it given the reaction to my OP, but if anyone is interested in how I made the heat shields let me know.
Don't knock stuff you ain't tried folks ;)
Roit then, I’m off to plan the next trip :thumb

Well done, never take too much notice of the arm chair travellers just do it.
dave (doing it monday) gs.

get a trailer -seriously uncool...

... but I never worried about stuff like that

not got a picture of the Trailer on its own... But I do know that Watsonian will be more than happy to modify the rear end of an 1100 to take one.

This Trailer is from Armec.

I'ld rather be uncool with a trailer... than take the kind of risks listed so eloquently above... but thats just me.

I definitely will be looking into getting a trailer or sidecar(with which Atkat could then share the driving) at some point as I reckon it will suit the type of riding we do, thanks for the info Tony :thumb2 I'll wait until we've moved for that though, things seem to be rather cheaper outside the UK. And for the moment I'd rather use the gear I have and spend the cash on the trips & experiences instead.
Ride on :)

Two main problems with a trailer:(
1, you're restricted to 60 mph on motorways and all other roads unless posted speed is slower:(
2. you are NOT under any circumstances allowed in the 3rd [4th on 4 lane MW's] lane of a Motorway.

[before the pedantic bastids get on line >>>UNLESS motorway is restricted by a lane closure to two or less lanes]

so picture this>
Two Lorries playing, TWATAKE, one doing 55.7 mph in lane 1 and twat 2 doing 55.9 mph in 2nd lane twataking. you will be stuck behind for 3 !! maybe more miles getting madder and madder, you think feck it and move to lane 3 to pass and BINGO:blast Fuzz on a bridge:spitfire cue 3 points:thedummy and fine....
