why is the GSA twin cam so bloody good!

The suspension is brilliant. It was in the engine dept where the competition decimated it.

Why so touchy ffs???

Have you ridden all three in one day???

Seems you are the touchy one Trev, given the rubbish you are posting which has come under close scrutiny and found to be wanting. You only have to look at the adjective you used in relation to the engine to see that.

Now now chaps calm down! The wc will come out then triumph will update there's then Honda theres, who cares stop being so protective of your brand and buy and ride what you prefer.

Well I did ride all three in one day (Honda, Triumph and GS) and I bought the GS!
I think the twin cam is significantly better than my 06 GS, I can almost keep up with my mate on his multi strada now :)

It's all horses for courses of course :D, some bikes are better in some areas than others, that really is no surprise as all engineering designs are a compromise.....
BUT the GS is so damn successful, and rightly so, because it is more competent at more things than the competition - so far the new 2013 GS looks as though it is going to be even more competent and make the current competition look a little sad in comparison.

In September of 2009 I swapped my 1150gsa se for a 1200gs mu,for no other reason at the time, than the 1150gsa was just to tall for me i'd had a couple of moments whilst loaded up and with Joanne on the back.

I upgraded the luggage and screen for adventure variants added Sargent seats and to all intents and purposes I was set up.
The bike had ABS and ESA and in my opinion was the best all rounder I'd ever owned.
I didn't rush down to the showroom when the dohc was released as I felt the 1200 mu delivered everything i needed and wanted.

Move on to September 2011 and I take my bike for a service,I'm given a 1200 dohc as a loan bike, which I'm taking back the next day.

I had no intention of spending any real time on the loan bike,as it was just a means to get back home.
It took me 6hrs to ride the 36mls back home which had somehow become extended to far far more than 36mls.

I could not believe the difference in the two bikes,it even appeared to handle better which I can only put down to a smoother drive out of the bends.

Having now done 8000mls on my twin cam I still can't work out why it's such a better bike than the mu,but it is,and it's poles apart fom the 1150.

I will try the WC and if there is a significant improvement I'll order one if not I'll keep my twin cam and maybe treat myself to a new 250 trail bike.

I'm still punting around on my 'W' reg 1150 and although very tempted by a very smart 1150 Adv but I keep brousing 1200's

Are the improvment between early 1200's, the later ones and the twin cam as big as they say?

and what would you say they are?

Hi Wreford,

I've had both single and twin cam 1200GSA's.

You can indeed notice the difference between the engines, with the twin having more poke, but it ain't essential.

If you are going to ride around ringing the bikes neck and riding like its a sports bike, then you need the twin cam. If you ride a bit more sedately, then either will do.

I only have a twin cam 'cos my single cam bike got nicked, and that was all I could buy new, and I have no issues with swapping between the two.

For me the biggest issue is getting a GSA with the enduro box (lower first gear).

Knowing what I do about your riding, I reckon you'd be happy with either, just like me.

Got to disagree with that. :) THE big plus for me on the twin cam is its much better pootling capability. At 30mph it happily pulls a gear higher (I reckon with a few more miles that's going to go to 2 gears higher). The whole thing is just so much more flexible and satisfying to ride - the latter is difficult to put a finger on why but it is!

Quit now Trev

You'll never win against Bob - he's the king of the literal word that you have written here:D

I was wondering when you would throw your hat in Johnny. Some things don't change as you still have the ability to post total rubbish:rolleyes:

Good advice

I'm out

First addition to my Blocked list since Tarka lol

What a saddo. If you are going to post opinions don't be surprised when others disagree with you. If you don't want people to disagree with you then don't post.

Well i would expect the new WC to put up a better fight for sure. It felt like an 8yr old bike - thats why I bought a brand newly developed bike :beerjug:

Bit late but isn't the Cross Dresser just a VFR with a body kit? Hardly "new"!

ive ridden, lots of makes of bikes,

and all the bm models

the twin cam is by far the best, without a doubt :rob

+1:thumb Twin cam much better low down drive, fuelling feels much more linear it's smoother at all engine speeds and has the best gearbox of any boxer I've owned.
