'98 1100 with Remus, no cat., K&N.....Have had a continuing problem @3800 rpm in 5th(only) with the oil temp @5 bars.Highway speeds of 68/70mph the engine will start to loose power unless you very(I mean VERY) slightly roll out of the throttle and then back into it and it will pick back up and be good for another 15min. when the same thing starts again. Valves are set, end play done, throttle bodies not synced.
Today removed the pink code plug and the bike ran perfectly for more than 50 mi. The oil did not get to 5 bars.
Why is there a cat code plug and what are the downsides to running without it?

Your bike would originally have had a catalytic converter.. all US bikes did. The Pink CCP was for the US market I believe... particularly for Californias rather draconian emission laws/regs.

There were 5 different CCPs.. each one had different effects and were in place to "custom tailor" parameters to meet emission/country-specific specs. There is a default 'map' installed in the motronic and this is when NO CCP is installed... and thats whats in control of your bike now.

There are no real downsides to removing it.. if the bike runs well. the plugs are a good colour. fuel consumption is what it should be. thats all you need to know.

Its possibly a good idea to remove fuse 5 for a minute or so to clear and reset the Motronic. If I remember correctly the motoronic will default to a 1.8% CO value. As you wont have a CO pot installed. (I think only UK bikes had one of them.. as we didn't have a CAT in the 1100s original exhaust) Probably a waste of time doing this.. as your bike is now running so well. (but it wont hurt)

In short... your bike is now running very close to how mine and a lot of other British and European bikes... maybe slightly rich. but thats not a problem.

By changing the CCP (cat code plug),you are changing fueling maps according to whether you have fitted non-stock silencers, use poor quality fuel or are at high altitude.Do a search on here and ADVrider;there is a good description of the CCPs fitted and it's effects.

So which map is the bike using with the plug out? My 1150 hasn't got a plug in. It runs well and I would say is fueling perfectly, maybe a little on the rich side.

plugs

these are nothing more than a link didderent plugs have the linlk in differnet positions do a search and you'll find Steptoes post on trying a link wire in different positions so have a search on here and all will be revealed.

That is really cool to get the chart!
I see there's no listed stetting on the 1150 for having no plug in.
I take it know one knows what's kind of setting having no plug in on an 1150 will give.

The 1150 reacts to modding the CCP rather differently to the 1100. do a search for 'steptoes cat code mod'.
