Why So Many 1200's For Sale!

Wow - stunning reliability :thumb

Its a 12 grand bike ferchristsakes - if it can't last 18 months there's something badly wrong!

Amazing how low our expectations of quality & reliability are, compared to a reasonable quality car.

Yeah, I know the reasons (some of which are meaningful) but it's still bad that some bikes are so crummily built...

Something that's just occurred to me:- are cheap (new) bikes any worse than expensive bikes..?

There's lots of commuters on ancient 250's etc that probably never break down :augie

a few years back a friend of a friend bought an old bandit 600 for about 800 sovs spanked it senceless up till now and try as he might he cant kill the bloody thing:D:D:D good old suzuki and their parts bin specials:thumb2

When you look on Flea Bay at the moment there are sooo many 1200's for sale and hardly any 1150's or 1100's! Why is that? Are they really that bad?

Easy - BMW sold about 15 1100/1150's in total - they have sold 8 gazillion 1200's

Lot's have been sold.

:thumb2

People bought lots of them after watching Ewan and Charley and now there's a credit crunch they can't afford a toy anymore :nenau

I reckon it's the "Charlie McGregor & Ewan Boorman" effect.

LOADS of people have bought them, and then realised they are either too heavy/big/expensive etc.

Isn't it obvious ? More 1200's were sold, so more of them on second hand market.

I think all these posts are correct. A few may be being sold because they've broken down more than the owners expected them to too :)

Time of year and economic situation.

Folk think they'll get more money if they sell it at this time of year. When everyone else is doing the same, and the seasonal must-buy-a-bike impulse buyers they think are after their GS's are instead going straight for a new bike from the stealers.

If only I had room in the garage for a proper hooligan tool ...:drool

Thats the reason we sold ours..now running R1150GS x 2 & a R1100GS which have been faultless:augie

Missing the 12's though...the 11's are so slow:(

Ah yes the 11xxs when GS's were for those in the know who dared to follow a different path rather than the followers of fashion........

I really liked the 1200, wanted one bad.
Looked at a few secondhand (they were all shite) looked at brand new (too much responsibility as regards reliability)
Bought a 1100GS (waited for the right one)
1200...Many for sale, now there`s a surprise!!:thumb

I don't doubt that the 1200 is lighter/faster/newer than the 11**'s...

But I've never looked at one and thought "I just have to get me one"

Like when I saw the first 1100GS, or more to the point, the 1150 Adv.

There's just something about 'em... :augie Did I say 'character' - oops :blast

now you dunnit you used the C word:boozer

Simples, the 1200 has been one of the best selling bikes in the UK so there will be plenty on the market at any time.

Also, for the majority of bike owners, their bike is a toy and they will change it often and if the dealers aren`t offering good p/x prices, they will try for a private sale.

If you check out all the other manufacturers of fast selling and popular bikes, you`d probably find the same result.

It`s got eff all to do with the "perceived unreliablity" issues.

If it works then ride it, if it doesnt then get it fixed and ride it.:comfort

talking of which I am going for a bimble to Catterick now then onto Sheffield later, 130 miles of A1, joy of joys.

i hear a lisburn bike shop has 5 traded in this week all have had breakdown issues.
so i guess they are all pissed of with being stranded on the road :bow:bow:(
