Why Would Anybody Buy A Sargent Seat?

The sargent seat I have is very comfy and can do 1000 mile on it no problem, but have to agree it looks as ugly as sin of the bike. So only put in on if I know I am going to be sat for three hours at a time between stops.

Would probably have be better going down the Tony Archer route as a much more economical route.

ARcher seats any pics?

Is anyone with an archer seat able to post pics preferably on a 1200GSA.

Many thanks, sorry to hijack the thread.:beerjug:

In my case there was nothing to see, no visual difference at all, Tony used original materials to recover the seats, he trimmed a little height from the riders seat and added gel pads, looked original which is what I wanted :thumb2

This is a tony archer jobbie too. and i must say its a dam site better than the standard one:thumb

Here's my custom-built seat with a bit less height than standard for short legs and an extra roll of padding for an extra-fat arse! I had it covered in a non-slip material for a few quid extra, but standard vinyl to match existing a bit cheaper, or any covering of your choice.

:bounce1

Tony has done literally hundreds of BMW/GS and other bike seats and will take time to understand what you want and offer options.

I believe he does mail order if you are a way away.

£80 for what you see here, vs. over £300 for a Sargeant?

A no-brainer :thumb2

No connection apart from as a satisfied customer, who has tried a Sargent and sent it back.

Wouldn't a more pertinent question be... Why can't BMW put decent seats on their bikes in the first place?

The plank on my F800GS was appalling and though the seats on my RT are much better they are not a patch on the Kahedo ones I picked up on here second-hand.

Imagine if you habitually had to rip out the seats in a particular brand of car just to get comfort which lasts more than a couple of hours - I can't imagine that the manufacturer would survive very long.

So - are we just idiots who will put up with anything, or serial farklers who will never be happy with 'standard'? :nenau

Funny when you read different opinions about the mods that "improve " the bike. I am just as guilty as anyone in being persuaded we can improve the B*W standard kit that umpteen Germans have spent thousands designing.
Being that I was easily influenced I bought a pair of Sargent seats but neither myself nor wife thought they were as good as the standard, in fact we hated them. Next up was Givi Airflow screen. This was brilliant at keeping the wind off but seemed to make the ride noisier due to the increase in engine and exhaust noise ,it sounded as if I was sat inside a drum. Never mind ,got rid of both on this site(its surprising how often they come up so I cant be the only one) and went back to standard which we have both done thousands of miles and many long days without complaint.
In future I shall try to ignore making improvements and just get on with riding.

Now what are the best tyres?? and what oil should I use??

sargent seat

:beerjug: I think the size and shape of your arse must obviously have a bearing on what constitutes a comfy seat!
I used the standard seat on my gs and found it ok but then I'm only 11st and of thin build. If you weigh 16st and generous in the rear then you may find it not so good.
I bought a gs now with a sargent seat already on it and though the guy gave me the standard as well, I kept with the sargent and I find it really comfy and it looks good too.
Whether I would buy one for £350 is another question.
How do you design the perfect seat for every shape and size?
I find the gs a bit tall but how do you design the bike to fit everybody?
BMW at least offer the low suspension model which shows that they do take it onboard.:rob

Thank feck, otherwise i wouldnt be ridding one due to being long of back and short of arse :blagblah:blast

I had a Corbin on the Diversion 900. It looked good, but was not symmetrical and seriously plank hard. Also it was so wide I couldn't get my feet down properly when stopped.

My pillion liked it because she didnt slide forward so much when I braked. But the standard seat is so slippy she would slide forward just by me backing-off the throttle.
