why you should make backups

5 minutes ago my pc suddenly turned itself off while browsing. CPU overheated in unventilated room with cooling fans in "winter/quiet" mode.

reboot & i have lost 75% of my Opera bookmarks. gone, vanished, erased

[smug]since i had backed the whole "System" partition up last week, i was able to sift them out from my last acronis image & now it's all hunky dory again [/smug]

let this be a lesson to you

That Acronis really is good, best backup software iv'e ever used.

hmmm, an overheating CPU should not cause you to loose any of your bookmarks.
Are you sure that's the only data you have lost? - Perhaps your hard disk could be on it's way out if you are loosing data?

true, but that's what appears to have happened. bookmarks were there previous to crash (i was using the browser). reeboot & many of them had vanished.

as far as i know, the only data it's lost is when it crashed yesterday.
