Installed skype 4.1 and ever since the laptops wifi is desperately slow :( plug in the cable to the router and it's as fast as it ever has been. Tried removing the skype, updating the wifi drivers, shutting down the laptop all to no avail. Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running vista home premium? The wireless network adapter is an Atheros AR5007EG network adapter and it passes all the tests, apart from when I want it to connect to the internet / outlook and it wont :tears

Any thoughts apart from doing a reset / recovery of the laptop?

Same computer same setup and no issues... but when I'm not going to use Skype I quit the program as I do find it slows things down a bit. Good luck.

Want to swap? Thought not :(

The problem seems to be getting the signal past something inside the laptop. Probably just needs box x ticking / unticking and all will be happy. Just thousands and thousands of boxes / combinations. Great things computors until they throw a wobbly.

Something tells me that I had to change my firewall setting to allow skype to run smoothly... can't remember exactly but it's worth a shot.. I run mcaffee security as I got it free from HSBC ...IF anyone else banks with HSBC the mcaffee download also includes the free virus checker.

Haven't got to using the skype phone yet, as I haven't got the phone. I'm on AVG as it's free.

Will ahve a look at firewall settings though, it might just be something so simple!

It probably is......

What firewall are you using? :)

Go to the properties on your wireless adapter. In the "This connection uses the following items" box, un-check (if it is), the
internet protocol version6 (tcp/ipv6) box.
Most routers don't support this protocol. Unless you have an N router. Then restart your pc.

Hi John, I can't see that at all when I open the device manager, then network adapters and then the wireless adapter in vista :(

Any ideas on how to get to it in another way? Tried the "internet options" route with no luck.

Edit, might just have found it by going through the network manager.

Well shut the laptop down for 10 hours for it to consider whether it wants to take up flying lessons. And it's decided it likes being a laptop so it's all working ok now, ferking things
