Wilbers WESA from abroad??

Saw this advert on eBay:

Has anyone gone this route for a saving, or does everyone use revs racing here in UK ? Seems like a good price, even with the international postage.

I used Revs which now I think is nearly £1300 although ride in ride out. Even if you pay the customs/shipping charges to bring them over this does represent a decent saving if you can sort it yourself.

One thing though, the ad there seems to show units as a whole rather than just the shock. At revs they use the existing motor components thus butchering the existing ESA units to swap in the WESA shock. (You probably know or gather that much, but just in case it helps).

This advert is a little misleading. ESA is not a retrofit option because there are electronics and switches on the bike on top of the parts on the shocks.

Almost certainly, these advertised units will also need to have the original ESA equipment stripped off and reused. With postage both ways and import charges there wont be much of a saving and almost certainly they are not providing ESA equipment at that price.

If you ask Revs Racing, they might supply bare ESA compatible shocks saving the labour costs of doing the conversion. But dont quote me - it might need special equipment. Ask Revs. Then what if the motors are faulty.

I've used revs for bikes other than my GS in the past so know their reputation well, but the guy in the eBay ad is the same USA Wilbers agent that has a good reputation on ADVRider. I've changed springs on ESA shocks myself but obviously a full rebuild with WESA is a Wilbers agents work.

But you also have to add import duty ? - cant remember how much it is but I've bought hifi gear from the US and it makes quite a difference. They even applied the mark up to the postage

Duty rate is 3.5% of delivered cost.
VAT @ 20% on the TTL costs. (Invoice price, Postage, duty & clearance)

At todays exchange rate you would be looking at approximatly an additional £215 + clearance charges on top.

ebays exchange rate is also some what optimistic at £1 = $1.529
It is nearer 1.46 - 1.49 depending where you get your $

You also still have to fit them - so makes Revs not so bad a deal.
