I did the WAW at the end of July but it has took me a while to get the ride report done and the photos all uploaded...

A great report, did a chunk of it from Ballina to Galway back in June and it was breath taking but like you found the tourist coaches a massively overlooked factor in planning times.

That's a great ride report and great photos. With 4 mates, I am off to do the WAW next May. You have whetted my appetite, and reminded me to pack the waterproofs!

Did Galway to Kilarney a couple of years ago, including the ring of Kerry...we did the ring the wrong way round to avoid getting stuck behind coaches,..... a coach driving relative of my missus told us to because the coaches all do it one way apparently.

Thoroughly enjoyed the ride...in glorious sunshine.:aidan..

And what is it with Limerick?...I wanted to visit there, but several (unconnected) people, all said it is called 'Stab city' among the locals and not to bother...

Great ride report, its getting very popular with bikers from all over europe.
Correct about the coaches, they travel anti clockwise around the ring.
You should have visited Limerick, they had problems with criminal gangs a few years ago but all sorted, I have great friends there & often visit.
 
Personally I have nothing against Limerick. I just avoided it as I had no reason to stop off there.

I used to work there so it was more important for me to see other spots.

It was stab city when I worked there lol but truthfully that was all blown out of proportion it's just like any other city in the world, a few lunatics running about that just need avoided.

Thanks for the comments from everyone too, glad people are liking it.

I'm thinking next year I may even do it again going north to south.
 
We were a bit pushed for time, so Limerick wasn't really an option anyway. We were on to visit relatives in cork.

Been to Ireland for the last two years. Best holidays we have had.. Glorious countryside, great people, easy to find accomodation, excellent weather...apart from the day we went to Dingle, boy did it rain!!.....road racing amazing. Tea at Father Teds house.

and the Guinness goes down very easily.....:beer:

Now that you have done the WAW you're just about ready to take on the Photo Rally, probably the single best way there is to discover hidden places on our island. :)

I mentioned in your blog, on Day 2, you have a photo labelled as Bray Head, but it is in fact Geokaun mountain, also on Valentia Island.
 
I'll have a look at it later cheers. Lots of photos taken. It must be overlooking the area or something.

Not sure I'll need to get in firing of the computer. Maybe just stuck the wrong photo in.

The Irish Photo Rally is run by GerryC of this parish, ably assisted in his endeavours by a plethora of underlings. There is also a thread at the top of the Ireland section on the Rally.

Without exaggeration, it is the best excuse (if one were needed) to travel the byways of this country bar none. The 2016 edition will start in February and you will have eight months to bag all 24 locations. I recommend that you give it a go. It is great fun and highly addictive.

I have had a look on the geotag of the photo and yep its a viewpoint near to Skellig's, but as I like that panorama I have just relabelled it. Thanks though :)

It is actually looking north towards Bray Head.
