Wild camping (& dirt roads) in Spain

Hi

We're planning on going to the north of Spain end August for 2 weeks, off the ferry and turn right basically

So, if you're heading along a wee mountain road and see a quiet spot, can you just pull over and camp? Any restrictions?

And, if you see a dirt road heading over the hills, are you allowed on them there? (Spain and Portugal)

Portugal you should be fine as long as there are no ;Privado signs visible. Watch out with fires though as they get very, very nasty about open fires in the forests.

I seem to recall reading somewhere recently that you can 'wild camp' in Spain, as long as it's not on a beach, private property (obviously), within the national park areas, and locations within village/city limits.

Sadly I can't remember where I read it.

Try Googling Wild camping Spain/Portugal and see what you get......Have fun whatever you do.

Hi there,

here in portugal Wild Camping is strictly forbidden. In what concerns dirt road riding, as soon you aren't on a National or Natural Park and/or private propertie the circulation is allowed, nevertheless, and due to the forest fires we've been suffering in the last few years circulation isn't allowed in some forests (mainly in the North) but you'll find a big placard sign informing about the months you can circulate on the road.

Did a few days in the Pyrenees on trail bikes last year and going back this. We rough camped in remote spots. We waited until dark before lighting a fire so no one could see the smoke. This year need to be very careful as forest is very dry. We are doing the Boucle D'andorran 250 miles off road in 3 days. Should be great!
