Will a pre water-cooled RT top box fit the new water cooled bike

After stripping one of these down recently to get the barrel out(no key) I can't see how you could modify it to work with central locking-- there is hardly any room between the inner/outer skins of the box to mount a servo motor, no mounting points or power supply in there etc etc. and lots of mechanical bits to be moved to operate the claws underneath.
Old style box would simply mean you have another key on your keyring to lock the box

Or code the lock barrel to suit your new key

So it looks like the best bet for me is to get my hands on a tidy used topbox get it painted to match the bike and re-code the lock to work with my existing bike key.

Thanks Wierpig, is this a reasonably easy job?

Is it possible to recode an existing used box lock or do I need to get hold of a new lock?

If its anything like the GS Luggage all you need are the correct "wafers" for inside the barrel. 10 minute job. You might be lucky and find that all you need to do it re-arrange the wafers to suit your key. You can but a repair kit from BMW for around £20 which will give you all you need.

It's an easy job.ebbos done a picture write up of the lock coding. The hardest part is finding the aperture in the top box to remove the barrel.Youll begin to think it doesn't exist, but keep trying.
