Will I end up sleeping on a bench ?

Tbh, Glasgow isn’t as bad as you might think. Most people from Glasgow are decent, it’s the imports that are a bit dodgy. I’m actually from Edinburgh and the tea leafs are much more prevalent there 🤔
No more than any other British city i expect.
robbing shits everywhere.

I think camping adds an essential element to travelling on two wheels.
When you`re in a swanky hotel all freshened-up and tucking into a fancy meal you`re not on a motorcycle adventure any more - you`re just like any other tourist but just happened to arrive by motorcycle!
Apart from when it rains, then it sucks...
:hide

I`m only 61, i ain`t ready for hotels yet!

A couple of weeks ago we were in Dartmoor, we had intentions of wild camping.
I found what i thought was a nice spot but Mrs Hann got spooked by the local wildlife - she had an encounter with a herd of cows on a ramble recently who corned her between a hedge and a stream
So we found a small, basic, cheap but decent campsite instead.

She may look a bit moody in the pic - she wasn`t, i think she was just in a thinking pose. I think...
I allowed her to pack an umbrella for some semblance of luxury - i`m not a complete b`stard!
Anyway, she wants to go away again soon for more nights under canvass - Lake District is planned.
She looks pensive and contemplative

Is she wearing a tag on her left arm 🤔

Essential, I think not.

When I’ve spent 13 hours riding in northern Norway , at least-23, camping is not essential I assure you. A warm cabin and good rest is desirable.

Likewise, 8 hours in pissing rain in Europe.

Not essential.

Still don’t know what all the butter chat is either

It started life a long time ago as an observation on the topic of disc locks or whatever on motorcycles.

Several posts said the usual: “I always use lock XYZ and my bike has never been stolen”. The seemingly obvious alternative view was simply: “I always keep a pound of butter in the fridge and my bike has never been stolen, either”.

It amused some at the time and still amuses some today.

As mentioned many times, those disc locks do more damage than good. Friendly fire when you forget it’s on and most come off fairly easy. The Litelok seems decent though.

Hi Alex. I did my first trip to France on a bike last year. The weather was kind and an unplanned night in just a sleeping bag high up in the vosges region in the middle of nowhere, with an amazing sky to gaze at while drinking the bottle of red and eating some great food I'd bought at the last village I rode through was great. I just rode until I was knackered, found a scenic spot and dossed down. No-one tried to rob or murder me. The stag that started roaring in the middle of night in the woods behind me was entertaining, I christened him Dennis and had a' roar off' with him at about 3 in the morning. Don't be afraid to wing it. Fortune favours the brave...

Can’t get over the number of people who have taken the time to reply !
So, I’ve booked my ferry first weekend of August, return a week later. Camping gear will come along. If I need some comfort , I’ll grab a hotel last minute.
I’ve also managed to download a load of GPX files from here with the route that I fancied doing.
And everyone told me BMW riders were all miserable buggers ! You’ve all helped massively
Thanks for all the info
I’ll let you all know how I get on
