Will I still get a service stamp?

Hi

I'm in Germany on holiday, nearly back. I thought I would be ok for my 12k service when I returned (booked 14/7).
Problem is my 6k was done at 5200 so whilst I been here it's been flashing up that the 12k is now just overdue.

I do want to use the bike in the next three week so the odo might get to 13000.

I also care for the bike so I'm proposing to swap the oil. Filter and final drive oil myself when I get back on Sunday.

That means the dealer won't have to do it, but I'm more bothered about looking after the bike.

The other bits of the 12k service as less "time critical" - will he accept this and stamp my book do you think?

Any other ideas?

So you are doing the service yourself but you want your dealer to stamp your book.
Is that right?
If so I expect the dealer to tell you to poke it.

Don't worry about it. 13k is fine.
If you want the stamp. Give it to the dealer to service.
Or, if you're doing it yourself, sign the book yourself and keep your receipts as proof.
 
Hi there's a list of things for the service including valve clearances and other checks etc etc

I want to keep this bike though and want to change the fluids as they are (over) due

I was suggesting a compromise where I get to do these now (as the dealer can't fit me in) and they can do the rest later.

If I'm at 13000 then it's nearly 8000 since the last oil change and it's my baby.

If I could predict usage/mileage and if they weren't busy they'd be no problem. I'm not really trying to take the "!ss
 
I think if you do the fluids and then take it to the dealer for the remainder of the service explaining that you have done the oils I think a reasonable dealer will still stamp your book. At worst you could get a receipt of proof of their work and keep with your own receipts for oil as proof of service. As you plan to keep the bike why does the stamp matter? You know whats been done.
 
Buying the oil off the dealer would help your case. Personally I would not worry about letting it run to 13000. Jjh

If a stamp/badge of honour is important let the dealer do it

Change the oil now.

And if you're really concerned about a dealers stamp let them change the oil and filter in 1000 miles.

£20 quids worth of oil you wish its 5w 30 Castrol which is about £75 if you buy it your self

You could get it serviced in Germany by the people who made it!
 
Is anyone using the shell equivalent? Now bmw are in bed with them?

Thanks I think that's the plan.

By the way, recommended oil is castrol 5w/40 according to motorworks not what has been posted on here.

You mean made by people in china, put together in Germany :)

8000 miles, the oil is only just being broke in, unless your a spirited rider whom likes to thrash it and ride in hot climates, its usually the heat that kills the oil .

BMW have fell out of bed with castrol and its now shell, for the price I think it must be liquid gold .
 
Oil is "killed" by short journeys not allowing it to reach temperature and evoperate all the contimanents Jjh
 
Seat 1600 turbo diesel, services are every two years or 20,000 miles and cost £175. The oil is a bit more expensive but nothing like BMW prices. The oil has to work very hard in a diesel car, probably more than a low revving bike. 6000 mile £250+ services are specified keep dealers workshops profitable.
 
Irrelevant and useless fact number 2.

Porsche Cayman services are at the same intervals as the Seat.... But the oil (unsurprisingly) costs more.
