I'm considering a Wilbers 641 for the ST project bike.
Anyone tried one? Will it physically fit - as in clear the tyre, etc?
Available on eBay for £555, which seems reasonable.

Bad idea?

94 views and no replies. I'm assuming that means no one's tried one!

I know people use the 36mm version so, presumably, the only issue would be its 46mm-ness, so... Anyone with a 36mm Wilbers, is there hardly any clearance between the spring or the tyre or is there loads? How much, exactly?

The PO fitted a larger WP to my G/S and it hit the top of the battery, even with the battery tray packed forward until it touched the air box.
I ended up filing a bevel one the battery case-----.

There are actually two sizes of battery specified for the monos, one of which is 5mm smaller in each dimension, and if you could find one made to the smaller size it would probably fit a bit easier, but could only locate the larger ones.

Ideal, thanks. Battery not a problem - it'll be a much smaller one and probably fitted somewhere else on the bike.

rear shock

I've just fitted a YSS off e. bay. I paid £248 & it performs really good.
But my ST shock was knackered!

Yeah, mine too. any idea if they're rebuildable? I mean, anything is rebuildable but are they good enough to be worth rebuilding?

My local guy uses YSS "Gold Valves" which he considers are as good as any.

But he still prefers Ohlins shocks, recons once you have pulled a few apart you would pay the extra.

But the YSS are reputed to be on par with the Other Ohlins copies, Wilbers, Technoflex, etc, and I think they are run by ex Ohlins people.

Well that's two recommendations for YSS. I'll have a look right now...
