will my Nav v work if just running from the charger

Going to Italy on Sunday (sadly not on the bike but in Joanne's SLK ) anyhow, I've searched high and low and cannot find my car mount which was for a 660, but I'm sure I've used it with the Nav V.

The question is, will the Nav V function ok if I just purchase a USB to Cigarette socket and plug it in as though connected to my computer, in other words power it from the micro usb behind the rubber seal or will it need to be connected to a proper mount to function properly ?

It'll charge, but it will go into data mode at first, I've had it plugged into the wall and messed with it and it showed as charging. It'll just show as data mode first, then the screen will shut off, then press the power button and you use it as normal. Will probably work regularly by pressing the pwr button right away.
