I have a 2005 GS. I'm hoping to change to a 1200 GS LC. My contact at the local dealership cannot tell me if I will be able to transfer my wire wheels. (I know I'd need to get the tyres reversed)

Anyone know the answer?

Many thanks,

Derek

Nope, they won't fit. Your dealer is an imbecile.

Thanks guys. Short, to the point and an answer. My thoughts on the dealer mirror yours!
Cheers, Derek

Anything for the potential of a sale and commission...

You'd be amazed at how little most BMW employees actually know about their products! Unfortunately the product sells itself, so most of them don't have a clue.

When you are talking to vehicle sales people you have to remember, that in a lot of cases, you are dealing with the hard of thinking !

If you do, then you won't go too far wrong :augie

At least he was honest enough to admit he didn't know. I have been subjected to bullshit and waffle by dealers. JJH

The Rear WILL physically fit I have had a 2006 r1200rt wheel on my GSA (but double check the offset) , the front will also physically fit into the forks and be central BUT the discs and the ABS rings are different

Though the rear will sort of fit, it is turning backwards, contrary to design specs, and the hub is not exactly the same size and the wheel width is different.

The front will fit between the forks, but it will not even come close to bolting in correctly. Completely different mounting set-up, and the ABS ring and the brakes make it completely incompatible.

Jim

Thanks Jim. Much as I suspected but would have felt a little foolish to sell the wheels and then discover I could have kept them! Cheers, Derek

Wire wheels are only a £300 option on a new bike
