i have a 1998 1100gs and am thinking of fitting wheels off a r1100s,has anyone else done this mod,do they go straight on or do i need any extra bits.any advice/tips + pics would be welcome.

Yeah but, no but... They'll work, but the speedo won't. The 1100S drives its speedo from the gearbox but your GS drives its speedo from a spiggot on the front wheel hub.

The rear wheel will fit ok, but you may need to space it or the ABS ring to line things up. For a front wheel, you need to look out for one from an 1150R/RS/RT or go the 3-spoke route & use one from an 1100R/RS/RT but you will also need the brake discs for this option.

HTH,

r1100s wheels on gs1150

Stavross,

I fitted r1100s wheels to my bike, the rear I fitted with a spacer and bolts from another bmw no bother atall.

The front wheel had to be modified to make it work. I did it by hand and it took a whole weekend, I don't reccomend this. If you really want to fit the 1100s front wheel it should be machined.

here's the thread for the front wheel:

so it was a duff front wheel anyway, it's still under my bench waiting to be turned into a clock
