I am looking for an exceptional real ale pub, that also does food somewhere near to Avebury (not the red lion) I am also looking for good points of interest in the area too, but not the usual suspects. (stonehenge, kennet barrow, white horse etc)
we have a weekend at the Barge inn, every summer, and are looking for somewhere new to visit.

any ideas

Crofton Beam Engines - if you like steam check as limited steam weekends.

Pubs in Lacock are all good.

Hungerford has a fantastic antiques arcade.

Marlborough has lots of nice tea rooms.

Devizes has the canal and flight of locks.

Chippenham has the besty curry at the Ashoka.

Golden Swan at WILCOT near Pewsey, nice pub, does real ales and cider, camping field at rear, food aint bad either.:thumb

The Three Daggers just outside Westbury is good, has a couple of rooms too.

When you want coffee and cake, Devine Cafe at Cherhill. Make sure you try it.

Allington farm shop on a420 between Chippenham and castle Combe - superb cafe for brecky or lunch.

+1 for Ashoka Indian in Chippenham :rob
