Hi all, When i picked up my 2nd hand 2010 ADV there were cracks in 3 of the 4 mounting holes in the two wind deflectors so the dealer said they would replace them. I picked them up this morning and the mounting has changed slightly. The ones that were fitted when i collected it had a two piece hard plastic washer fitting that the mounting bolts went through wheras the new ones have a larger hole in them and a rubber grommet pressed into the deflector. The holes in the new ones are larger than the holes in the original ones.

I have fitted the new ones with the flat plastic washer off the original ones between the bolt and the rubber grommet because if you just put the bolt through on its own it ends up distorting the grommet before you can tighten it enough to prevent movement. Anyone know if this fitting of the new ones is correct or is there a larger headed mounting bolt to use with these modified deflectors?

I presume they have rubber mounted them now to prevent over tightening and cracking them.

......................... your thoughts please

Ive just answered my own question, I now realise that the holes are bigger in the new deflectors to allow the rubber fitting to be there as well as the two plastic washers that were on the original ones :blast

Sorry for the confusion, I tried to delete this post to avoid looking stupid but i cant find how to so i've had to reply with the obvious answer to my own question.

At least for all of you with cracks in your deflectors and you thinking there is no point in replacing them as the next ones will only do the same well hopefully they wont now................. clever BMW :bow

2010 winglets have these fittings, the metal bush lets you nip them up with no danger of over squishing the grommet,

Thanks Kenny, Thats interesting as mine is a 2010 twin cam registered march 1st but mine had the old type deflectors fitted. I've used my original plastic bush to fit the new deflectors, Its made of very hard plastic so will probably be as good as the metal one

Its a definate improvement with the rubber grommets on the new deflectors as its now easier to tighten without overtightening them.

Are the winglets a genuine BMW accessory ?, i cant find them in the 2010 book.:augie

Standard screen and winglets

Any one fitted the winglets to a bike with standard GS screen. Is it a worth while mod?

Yup... done at the dealers when I bought the GS.... looks good and feels good but does interfere with the height adjustment on the screen :eek
