Hi guys, got 2012 GS, fitted with GSA screen and winglets, I'm only 5'7" and I'm getting battered by wind noise. I've lowered screen as low as it goes and its better as believe the helmet is now doing its job.Would going back to old GS standard screen make it better? can the winglets still be used with with standard GS screen or even necessary? The only reason i went GSA screen was for the top bar for satnav mount, been that long since old screen was fitted cant remeber if its worth going back to it.

Thanks

Steve

I'm taller than you and I have the OEM screen fitted. It's stood up as straight as the adjuster will allow. I think it's deceptively good.

I'm slightly unclear why you're trying to lower your screen? Is it not better to get it higher, more vertical?

The higher the screen the higher the turbulence I find, took screen off last year and was really good without one bike just looks ridiculous though. I read somewhere helmets work better with no obstructed airflow (no screen). Just needeto know if wingless are OK with GS screen?

the std screen is incredibly poor - I find it hard to find at that height you have an issue... you should be behind a bubble of completely still air... its usually taller riders that have serious issues

as a good experiment remove the screen.....the bike looks silly but the noise and turbulent free ride is literally eye opening

Im same height and have the same set up. Not a fan and preferred the standard screen on a test ride (3 years ago) but haven’t got around to changing it.

I also find that along with turbulence I don’t get good airflow for my helmet vents so get very hot over summer. Will be interested to see what the consensus on a quieter small screen is.

Oh I can clear the turbulence putting the screen in its highest position with an addition top wing. Turns it into a complete riot shield and you can’t see so we’ll if it rains though so went back to lowest position which is the quietest option.

On my 2011 TC (not adventure) I swapped to a GIVI Airflow 330 and it’s been brilliant compared to the standard screen, riding most of the time with my visor up.
Thinking I’d make it even better I bought some genuine BMW winglets and fitted them but I felt turbulence around the sides increased so I’ve now removed them.
The GIVI air flow looks a bit odd but works very well. I’ve tried a few screens on the three GS’s I’ve had and won’t be changing this GIVI.

plus 1 for the givi airflow 330. transformed my gs, after trying about 3 different screens

Plus 3 for the givi af330, like everyone states looks odd but does the job, I’m 6”2 and works well. I’ve also fitted the winglets and think there is more turbulence so think I will try with them off. You can ride with the visor open if you want with it no problem.

I’m 6’3”, I have a 2007 GSA and the wind noise is a pain in the ass.
I tried extensions and everything else to no avail. I keep the screen in the lowest position now all times and, yes, the bike is incredibly more comfortable without the screen.

Surprised it affects you. I always thought it was a problem for people over 6’

At 5ft 7', a smaller screen would be better (or the standard GS screen) - all set to the lowest position. Also avoid 'adventure' peaked helmets. Get a quiet full face lid. I'm not sure about the winglets, but experiment by removing them. I had them on a 2017 GSA but I think they were less pronounced than the after market style which stick out further. Less is more with screens if you are shorter than 6 ft ++.

Plus 4 for the Givi AF330 used them for 100K miles and only have my visor down if it is raining. Also have the NN winglets.

+ 5 for the givi airflow,

Just wish they'd do one for the LC models

BMW should be prosecuted for hearing damage and vision impairment.

to say the std screen is poor, is such an understatement is not funny… you could go 10 years in the ring with Foreman and Tyson and get less hits to the head than that f joke.

the adventure screen is twice as good (but still a flipping appalling disaster)

Never tried the givi. Best fix is to throw the screen in a skip and try without. Ultimate silence and wobble free.... I've had a ztecnic tall one on for 8 years... its very good. The heat build up you just get used to it

Even the GSA LC remain with a total joke.

I must be the only Person not to have found the Givi Airflow to be an Improvement.
It didn't seem to get much better or worse regardless of how I positioned it.
I tried it on my Versys 1000 too with no better results.
I have the Stock GSA Screen with a cheap Chink Adjustable Extender thing and it's about as good as I can get for my 6'4" Tall Frame.
I get Wind Noise but then I wear Ear Plugs so it doesn't bother me too much.
There's no Turbulence though and that's the key for me, I can't live with that!
I also find it makes a big difference when I try different Helmet Styles.

+6 for the givi airflow 330 , I tried a few different screens but the givi was the best by far

Since we are now making this thread the AF330 appreciation society What’s everyone’s preferred setting on the AF330?

I had the screen as far forward as possible so on the top end setting. Today I moved to the middle and tried and a lot more wind noise and buffeting so going to try setting of two notches down from top and see what like.

I read some posts that some didn’t like the AF330, I would say it’s worth playing with the settings as tonight’s experience is giving totally different results.

Standard GSA screen plus MRA xcreen. Calm, no buffering and 90mph visor up....just saying.
