Windfarms on my doorstep, What can you do?

Just found out that three of the estates are proposing windfarms on the Dava moor. This will devastate the scenery and spoil a great ride over Dava Grantown road. :mad:

What the feck is going on? This is one of the beautiful untouched areas in Scotland nay Europe. How can the B******s sleep at night?

I'm sure most of you guys have been down this road, both sides of Lochindorb are great fun.

I went to a meeting in Cawdor which the local resistance movement :blast had organised and asked where they wanted my signature but they did not have anything in place to take my outrage to the powers that be. All the poor souls where doing was drinking tea and being annoyed.

Has anybody gone up against this kind of thing before?

What can be done?

the wind generators are one thing

but to get them there is first a well made road laid to and around the site which will scar the landscape (I assume they lock the access gate) .
Then there is the scarring to the area due to the work being carred out.
Finally there is the long term effect to the hillside caused by the (required) permanence of the deep foundations.

I think they only ever put two up on any one site and the damn things breed like rabbits and populate the area :rob

I do sympathise Raggi but I believe they are far better for the environment than the wave generators .

I think they are great, and have much less long-term impact on your envronment than any other currently available power source.

Wrong. Highlander all my years. happen to like the place the way it is.

Given the amount of scenery pictures people post on this site it is obvious they like it as well.
 
Just think of all the polar bears that will be saved.

A sign of the times I'm afraid, liverpool bay and morecambe bay seem to be getting them (wind farms, not polar bears) they're starting to appear on the pennine moors. They are a blot on the landscape, but I think you'll be hard pushed to stop more appearing.
The irony of it all is when someone applies for planning permission to modify their house in some way and are told by the town planners it would be an eyesore or out of context with the local environment and reject said application.

Climate change is going to happen whether or not they use these things and we all give up fossil fuel tomorrow. 'we're all doomed captain mainwaring, all doomed'
 
just out of interest what was there before the road you like riding down or the house that you live in :nenau

its the price we pay for an expanding population and demand for power

wind farms are better than than the nuclear option or would you prefer one of them :nenau
 
Wind turbines are a big con: They cost a fortune to make and use all kids of exotic stuff and you need about 300 to light a 100w lamp.

And the prize for factual answer goes to Mr. K

it would appear that a wind farm is not enough you still need the same amount of conventional power production to cover peak demand.

for instance it's Christmas day and every coont in the country is slamming a turkey in the oven, watching telly and got the heating wound up. Can you be certain there's enough wind to meet the increase in demand.

Honest answer is NO... so where do we go from here... Nuclear... is the way forward.:thumb2

There's an action group on the web someplace, all of whom are now probably on the watch list as subversives... God bless the gobbermint they so right in protecting us.

Personally they dont bother me. There are 2 windfarms within 10 miles of where I live.

I think they will be like electricity pylons - eventually they become part of the landscape.

Im with Lo-IQ on this, the only way to have cheap, reliable power is nuclear. (its just a pity what is left after the fuel is spent :augie)

Unless someone is advocating expansion of the current hydropower network we have and think it is a good idea to flood thousands more hectares of the countryside.....
 
I think they should build a Mancunian powered turbine- people burn well and nobody would miss'em :)

After the mess "the establishmen" made of it last time.... and after our most recent "establishment" created credit crunch... and a bunch of things in between...

You actually trust bankers, and politicians to get it right a second time around... you are willing to bet your great great great grand childeren's future on it?

Also... we need power supply that reacts quickly... Nuclear is slow-reacting cheap energy... something that can be turned up and down quickly is still needed to cover it...

Yes you still need to have backup generating capacity in place to cover for windless days... but wave energy and hydro electric are also mostly clean and can cover lots of it... Plus if the gas generators are not turned on... they are not filling our atmosphere with carbon... duu...:blast

Every light lit by the wind is another polar bear saved...

Are wind turbines really that green??

As far as I am aware, the wind turbines are largely made of aluminium, and that needs huge amounts of electricity to refine....what powers the smelters....etc....

Bottom line, whatever you do, has a negative effect of some description :rob
 
I think they look lovely. Very relaxing to watch and sooooooo huge they are quite awe inspiring.
Lets face it. There is so much scenery around and nobody ever botheres to go look at it bar the few who live near it.
There will always be something to look at somewhere else and i guess once you have seen one picture postcard location there is always another somewhere else.
then there is the question of power. we all want it and use it. Better to build these things now so that when the oil does get more costly and the coal burns out.....we have the things that are NOT in short supply, like wind!

personally I cannot wait until water becomes the next big thing!

I counted, and I have 28 taps to draw from. if i sell the stuff I'll be the next billionaire!!
