I'm a bit of a muppet when it comes to laptops, if anyone can help me out I'd be grateful.

I downloaded Windows 8.1 and now I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. When it does connect, it's only for about 5 minutes then it tells me there's no internet connection. Sometimes it tells me it's limited but still won't work.
I thought it maybe my broadband (Sky), but the same thing happens at work.

Any ideas?

Thanks Rick

Have you got the right hand side of the screen 'gems' opened ?
Drag side of screen in if you have a touch screen or move pointer to top or bottom right screen corner to reveal the 'gems'.
Bottom gem is settings, click on that and you'll find the network connections. Click on that and make sure you've found your own wifi network and are connected and make sure you have you password key entered correctly!

I am connected to my own wifi, for a few minutes, then is says limited connection and I can't connect to google or Internet Explorer or anything else. I have the right password.
I've googled the problem, I'm not alone, but their fixes don't work for me.

Just had the same problem yesterday with a laptop running windows 8.1. Solved by going into router settings. Wireless - Security - WPA encryption - set to TKIP - then hit Save. you might be asked to reboot the router for changes to take effect. hope this works for you.

Definitely a Windows 8.1 issue this, getting quite a few complaints from people trying to connect to wireless systems I've installed. You might try turning off the IPv6 settings in the wireless network properties, some say that has sorted them.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try your suggestions tonight, will report back.

As a note. I used Windows 8 beta and then Windows 8 with no issues on and older Vaio and updated to 8.1 from day one of its release. Now using Windows 8.1 on touch screen Lenovo Ideapad.

Never had any issues with any of the Windows 8 versions. Have had a few issues that have been Wifi hub and ISP (BT and now Infinity). Switching wifi off and on seemed to sort all the issues
Latest BT Hub 5 connection using WSP has been faultless after the 1st faulty Hub 5 was replaced.

Good luck

Right, I've had a look but hell, where do I go to to get to wireless network properties or router settings? !!!!

Another thing..... wifi says it's connected but I can't get on the internet still. When I turned it on tonight there was a little yellow triangle in the bottom right hand corner. It's gone. Not internet though.
