WTF were they on when they came up with that?

We needed a machine to run the business accounts on so after looking into various options I've just bought a new laptop. No options readily available other than Windows 8. I'm all for progress but it's a fecking nightmare. The whole point of a computer is it's a means to an end so what's the point of having an operating system that's so in your face and counter productive??

Fortunately I managed to find a nice program that gives you either a classic, XP or Windows 7 start button so calm has again been restored to Schloss farmer.

I would agree with you Rob, it is one of the most un-intuitive user interfaces I have come across in a long time. Why on earth they couldn't have just included a start button along with all the new crap is beyond me.

I've now pretty well found my way round Win8 but thank you for the link to the Start button, it will be very useful, Cheers!

Your post encouraged me to look on-line at other options. Here is a start button that looks good.

The was a way in the developers preview edition to totally disable the Metro interface and bring back the Start button by editing the Registry, but I think they may have removed that ability.
