is it anywhere near as good as Spotlight?

Never used a mac in my life...but it may be similar

Don't take this the wrong way, but real geeks don't use that fekkin Danasoft signature telling me what it thinks my browser is and where it thinks I'm posting from. If you want to go and spread FUD, at least explain why it's relevant............ and so it goes on and on until you are a technical genius like me.

microsoft were trying to patent a pay as you use software system i read a while back
so Office and other programs will cost you next to nothing or nothing to install but will cost you every time you use it and for how long you use it.
a fly move if it comes off.

Oh it's definitely similar

Well, there you go then
Nice venue - I see they have managed to fit the entire world Mac user base in there at the same time![]()

Why bother? Unless you need the sophistication switch to Open Office as I have. It's free and will not only do everything that I need it will also read and write in MSOffice format and can export as pdf or even e-mail pdf direct from the current file. With Sun Microsystems behind it it's not M Mouse either.
Job done and less money in the pockets of deceitful MS and the incompetent employees. (Maybe the employee bit is a bit harsh, I'm sure that the senior management deliberately want half developed bug ridden and insecure software so that they can regularly launch "improvements".)![]()

My experience (and the experience of a good few others according to other forum rants, not this forum) is that file explorer is as slow as hell reading new drives or even existing ones, typing a word into the search field starts vista searching at a very slow rate of knots (indexing switched on or not seems to make no difference). To perform a new search means vista then re-reads the contents of the drive that has just been read, thereby forcing another sit and wait period. It takes an eternity for explorer to read the contents of a external HD or USB, overall very frustrating. Version is Home Ultimate.

in short, don't bother. wait until the retail version has been out a while or upgrade now to XP.

Only bought my new PC last month and thought that vista was so new that it would be many years before a new system would be brought in

I am certainly a fan of Linux but I would never say all are more secure than windows, in fact far from it, many of the current Linux boxes in the hands of the masses are easy targets for anyone with a little imagination.Linux (operating system) is free and you can pick from a million and one variations - some of which are very intuitive to use - and all are far more secure than windows.
