We have 400 photos from our trip to Switzerland last year, sequentially file named 'Switzerland (01)' to 'Switzerland (440)'.

The problem is that when looking through them in 'thumbnail' mode and then, for example, clicking on jpeg 'Switzerland (38)' to view an image of the Eiger full screen, the image which actually appears full screen is that of the group around a restaurant table. That 'restaurant table' photo is actually 'Switzerland (234)' according to the thumbnail view - taken 8 days later.

Understand my problem?

It means that if we slide-show our photos, the buggers are all mixed up and out of sequence.

Any sugestions as to how I can get them back in to the correct images and sequence?

Many thanks,

Neil.

You ought to rename 01-99 as 001-099 otherwise they will be out of sequence.

Also if you have the default "cache thumbnail" set on the Folder (Windows Explorer Tools/Options/View) then the "cache" which is a hidden file named "thumbs.db" (or somesuch - I never cache thumbnails so don't have the files) may have become out of sync with the files - try deleting it and then viewing thumbnails again (after the rename)

The only sensible solution I can make is buy another camera and go and do the trip again:aidan

A glass of wine or two may have clouded my judgement again tho:beer:

I presume we are talking about the standard Windows Thumbnail view?

What happens if you copy them all to a newly created folder?

In thumbnail view, right click and select 'Arrange icons by' and select 'Picture Taken On' to arrange them in the correct time/date order for your slide show.:thumb

Tried that - no change. Some of the pictures don't have the date & time against their properties (Right click > properties > summary > advanced).

But I still have that problem of "click on #38 in the thumbnail view, and # 95 appears full screen"!

Thanks so far, guys.

Neil.

I recently decided to delete a few naff photos (cows in a field, blurred hillside shot) by viewing them as slides in Windows Viewer and clicking the 'delete' icon.

When I'd finished I looked at them in their folder, displayed as thumbnails, and there were gaps in the display line-up - kinda like a nativity calendar with some windows unopened. Obviously the deleted ones had gone from view, but their place was being 'held' on the screen.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,

Neil.

It is, as Clive suggested, down to the thumb.db file...it's not being refreshed.

Make sure you've selected show all files, system files and hidden files then do a search for *.db and it should find it.....delete it then have another go.

Right clicking on a folder, showing properties and under the 'customise' tab, you should be able to reset the way the folder is handled- that normally resets the thumbs.db file as well.
