Windows 7 has all the features of Windows Vista, but actually works, and is much quicker.

If you want to upgrade your memory, we'd need to know who built it (dell, hp, sony, etc) and which model it is, so we can point you to the right stuff :).

Installing extra memory takes about 5mins on most laptops and there are hundreds of guides to show you how.
If your unsure, PC World will do it for some extortionate price.

For all that theresnothing to stop you trying Linux "mint" like suggested above, it should be pretty much plug and play for what you want to do.

yes as above, post the model, spec and how much it already has. If you dont know how much it has and dont know how to tell then right click computer and click properties, that will tell you how much you have. You can also do a windows experiance test in there as well that will give you a resonabl indication of how well you can expect it to run and also what is needed to make it run better.

Oh and yes everyone has their favourites whether it be bikes, cars or operating systems and some are almost willing to die for their choice lol. Nothing against any of them but I am qualified in Microsoft products and have to be because industry runs on it. If I want paid I need to use Windows!

its a Dell inspiron 6400
memory (RAM) 1.0GB
processor T2060 @ 1.60GHz
system type 32-bit op system

does this help:)

Go to...

crucial.com...let them install a small peice of software and it will tell you what RAM you have, how much your motherboard can support and what you need to upgrade it and the price for the RAM....:D

Thanks Mick, I forgot that existed :)

http://www.crucial.com/UK/ click the scan my system button, and at the end it will tell you what type of memory you need, and how much you can upgrade.

Once it gives you a type (something like SO-DIMM PC2-4200 or SO-DIMM PC2-5300) you can search Scan.co.uk or Novatech.co.uk for some
