Looking for advice on windscreen spoilers please and if they make a difference as read mixed reviews ?

Looking at a Rippl or similar for my 2022 GSA and off touring soon and struggle with the buffeting . I’m 6’2” and no matter how I position the seat or windscreen I get buffeted either on my chest and neck or directly to the helmet …any advice greatfully appreciated before I make a purchase and potentially waste my cash. Thanks

Sounds daft but make sure its not your helmet.
I had an a Shoei which i used fine on a sportsbike, on my GS my head was being blasted around something ridiculous!
Im 6'4"

I changed to an adventure style with a peak which you would expect to be worse but the difference was night and day.
much better

Mine isn’t a 1200/1250 but I had a lot of buffeting on my 1150. I tried the ADV screen which made it worse ( tried standard and ADV with Tobinators ) I then tried a screen top spoiler. No difference.
I then tried a two piece MRA screen. Perfect! :thumb2
I also changed my helmet from the BMW flip one to a Klim Krios. Another improvement. :thumb2
No more buffeting and no more sore neck.

I just kept changing bikes until I found one that didn’t buffet me. Hence why I no longer have a BMW.😁

Hope that helps.

How about I send you this free of charge to try out, if it works for you keep it. If not sell it on and donate any money to a charity of your choice.

It has a crack but otherwise nothing wrong with it. These are about £120 new so better not to waste your money to find it didn’t help.

And buy a UKGser sticker to cover the crack 😁

Fatbaldbob, If Steve doesn’t take you up on that offer could I please?

I’ve a F700gs which I’ve tried 4 different screens on without any success - I’ve spent way too much money trying to fix this problem. My last attempt was going to be to try a deflecter on a F800gs screen before I start looking at other bikes.

Biggest improvement for me on the r1200gsa with standard screen eas to add stabilizers for the screen. Made a big difference

I'm 6'3(2024 GSA1250)Puig high screen,Neotec 2 lid.I have a cheap Chinese deflector and it works a treat.I can ride at 100mph with me visor open,no issues apart from the odd flying projectile trying to makes its mark.

It's not the prettiest thing but for £10.90 off ebay(delivered from China) it does an excellent job.

I’ve tried this deflector on an F800GS and GSA, along with numerous screens, none worked. On the F series GS the wind is coming from below the screen then bouncing off your arms / shoulders on to your head.

Try this next time you are on the bike: once up to speed on a straight, carefully move your arms in and hold the bars as close to the bar clamps as you can, or if confident enough simply let go of the bars and fold your arms, I can almost guarantee as soon as you do that you will be in still air.

Some have said if you remove the deflectors of the forks it helps, as these are directing the air up and under the screen.

For now Steve has first dibs but if he doesn’t want to try it you can have it or if it doesn’t work for him maybe he could pass it on to you.

But seriously, try the moving your arms out of the way trick first, if the buffeting stops whilst doing that then changing or adding things to the screen won’t work.

You need to be a subscriber to DM members; if so, just tap my username and a button will appear to DM me.

From your profile it looks like you are not a subscriber, best pay up so you can enjoy perks like this offer, also buy and sell stuff etc it’s a bargain for what you can potentially gain from the site. As well as opening up access to other areas of the forum.

Subscribed and message sent 👍🏻

I successfully used this on my GSA to increase the effective screen size without recourse to a larger screen; pretty unobtrusive yet effective 👍🏾

I have the vario clip on screen on my 1200 GS LC, I’m 6’1” and can sit at 80mph on the motorway (officer 😁) with my visor open fine 👍🏻

The shorter the screen the better for the taller riders. You want the wind hitting you in the chest.
