Windscreen too low on 2014 GSA

I'm mega impressed with my Puig touring screen (£85 from M&P) as it's very quiet with little buffeting, but I'm a short arse with a low seat :D

You could still get a higher windshield ... :augie

Update

Having swapped from a toilet GS to the GSA I did not like the GSA screen (too low) and did not think the MRA X-creen suited the style of the GSA.

Therefore bought the Puig screen with adjustable spoiler (M&P off fleabay for £98 delivered).

Did 280 miles on Saturday and it is really good but so tall that even at 6' 3" I keep it on the lowest setting. Also it needs extra support so have tonight fitted the Wunderlich screen support off Nippy Norman.

Better for me than the X-creen :thumb

Timely post. I got an MRA X-creen Vario this morning; I only just got it on to the bike this evening, but I've got to say, so far .... it's not much better than the stock screen. It comes with two sets of arms to attach the flip-up to the main screen, I'll try the other set tomorrow.

I'm increasingly thinking that the issue is not the size of the stock screen per se, it's the angle - even at its most upright, it's still way more laid back than the screen on my previous TC GSA. Next idea I think is to fabricate some wedge-shaped spacers so I can go back to the stock screen but have it maybe 10-15 degrees more vertical. There's an excuse to buy a 3d printer if ever I heard one... :D

Screen

Hi

I've had a chance to use my bike on a few runs, the longest to Leicester.

I have had the seat on both positions and find the BMW tinted screen is very effective. The only time I have found any buffeting is whilst behind a Range Rover. I can only assume its brick like streamlining upset the airflow around the bike.

The screen seems to flex more than my previous GSA. I'm not sure id want to put a screen extender on.

+1 for the Puig screen. Very little buffeting but have yet to take it on an extended run

Can one of you chaps with the Puig give me the precise centreline length of the screen please?

About 510mm:

IMO to use a screen of this size you also need added support such as the Wunderlich bracket:

Paul S - thanks for that, very helpful. Cheers.

I've never been able to get my screen right on my 2013 LC
I'm 5'8" with the lower seat but its always noisy in my lid even with ear plugs

I have the taller\wider Powerbronze which keeps the wind off the top of my lid(just) but I still catch a lot of wind on my shoulders.
I am quite wide at the shoulders and after a long motorway ride my shoulders and chest ache with the wind hitting the edges of my shoulders and the outside of my biceps.
I could do with an extra couple of inches either side of the screen to push the air around my arms - any suggestions?

I use a Touratech clamp on screen extension in conjunction with a Cymarc screen brace set. It works well in terms of wind deflection. There is no sign of screen cracking etc after around 5000 miles, including quite a lot of 90+ cruising. Hope this helps.

Given your description I can only recommend an RT, a Goldwing or a car. Sorry to say that, but you seem very sensitive to something that is an essential part of motorcycle riding, therefore, my recommendation is to either get used to it or get a convertible.

This isn't cynic or anything, but I just have to question whether you actually are willing to deal with the basic riding environment.

Yes thanks, very helpful. :thumb

With nearly 14K in a year on my LC and plenty of high speed motorway mileage on nakeds, I am more than used to wind buffeting.
I was just asking incase anyone knew of a wider screen.

I'm 6'4" and have the Givi highflow screen on my 2014 LC.

It's MUCH better than the stock one and has made my ride much quieter, and much less wind, bugs and rain on my visor.

I'd recommend it for other tall riders like me.

Ha. I've put the smaller GS screen on my GSA for summer fun. Planning on taking a Dremel to it, to trim to the bikini defined by the mounts.

Hi Guys!

I also have the puig one, I got it a bit cheaper from germany:

http://www.bs-motoparts.com/en/BMW/R_1200_GS/2014/10239/wind-protection-674.htm

I´m 6.13 ft, High seat. So far, very happy, only thing, I had to use a bit of silicone oil to fit the screen on the rubber mountings.

The only one available is a black one. I can't imagine anything more stupid than a large black screen. Or maybe you could fit a periscope ? Bar bing . . . . . Bar bing. . . . Bar bing bong, car!

Has anyone tried the MRA Vario screen yet?

My problem seem to be the Arai Tour X!! The peak resonates quite badly causing a drone that's quite tiresome. Just came back from a little trip to the Isle of Wight and it was awful. ..... Not the trip the buffeting on the peak :blast

Tried screen up and down. With it down I got the full force wind blast at 80mph and with it up, nearly up, half up it was no better.

However..... In the "up" position if I placed my hand at the top of the screen to create a "spoiler" the resonating disappeared completely.

So with that in mind I've been looking at the one in the link below. Any experience with this screen chaps? :nenau

Seems to be a mid way between the MRA X screen which looks a bit high for me.

Anyway here's the link.... Not bad at £89 :)
