Windscreen too low on 2014 GSA

My problem seem to be the Arai Tour X!! The peak resonates quite badly causing a drone that's quite tiresome. Just came back from a little trip to the Isle of Wight and it was awful. ..... Not the trip the buffeting on the peak :blast

Tried screen up and down. With it down I got the full force wind blast at 80mph and with it up, nearly up, half up it was no better.

However..... In the "up" position if I placed my hand at the top of the screen to create a "spoiler" the resonating disappeared completely.

So with that in mind I've been looking at the one in the link below. Any experience with this screen chaps? :nenau

Seems to be a mid way between the MRA X screen which looks a bit high for me.

I've got the MRA Vario Xcreen Touring (bottom of the HPS page that you linked to). It's ok, if not great. I use the smaller fittings for the flip-up, and have the flip-up bit set as vertically as it will go. It's better than the stock screen but still not as good as the OE screen was on the TC GSA.

I still think the issue is not the screen per se, it's the angle of the fitting on the bike - on the prev model GSA the screen could be much more upright that it is on the LC. At some point when I've got time I intend to fabricate an angled spacer to address this.
 
That's my worry jtb, the screen is a real backwards move in my opinion even though everything else seems a step forward.

It's just so flimsy as I'm guessing it because it's no longer a rigid screen. A lot of moving parts with the adjuster system now :rolleyes:

I'm probably going to get a pair of Mr Hootons cymarc screen braces to stiffen it up a bit. It flaps like a bitch at motorway speeds :eek:

I have got a tinted screen on back order .... 8 weeks now :rolleyes: .... But at £170 I'm thinking of binning it as it's going to be just as crap as the clear one. BMW do not do a taller screen according to NOG even though they say the ADV screen is a taller touring screen :nenau

I have the Vario Touring Screen. Best screen I had on any bike ever. Period. I ride with a Shoei MultiTec and always wear ear plugs. There is no buffeting with this screen and I feel just as comfortable with it as in a car.
 
I have a Nippy Normans tinted High Wide screen on my GS LC,

Been on a 3k+ tour of France/Portugal/Spain and can't praise it highly enough, its made a big difference to my comfort on the bike, I'm 6' tall (long body, shortish legs) and can ride very happily with my Neotec open at illegal speeds, it doesn't wobble or shake and it's a massive improvement on the stock screen.

Not an easy start to my buying experience with them though, as the first one they sent was slightly damaged but they eventually swopped it for a good one
 
I have ordered the MRA Vario tinted screen for my GSA and at £89 I thought a good price. the built in adjustable spoiler appealed to me.

Standard screen with my Shoei Neotec is fine but with my tour x it's terrible. Wind blast catching the peak making the ride quite unpleasant. :(

So I will report back my findings as the Vario is a bit shorter than the Xcreen but about 5cm taller than standard. I'm hoping that this will do the trick :rolleyes:

I fitted the MRA vario to my GS this weekend and with the spoiler raised find it works brilliantly.I had the same effect with my x-lite 551 as you with the standard screen, and the puig touring screen worked well but looked like a barn door bolted to the front.The MRA is doing the job well, but I'm glad I have the cymarc support brackets as it did flex around on the supports a lot without them.

Sent using random stabs with bratwurst like fingers...

I certainly has some flap!! :eek: :D I'm hoping for a good result like you :beerjug:
 
i've just put a v technik one on (tall version) and an pretty pleased with it. Definitely sit in clean air although there is still some wind roar which seems to depend a lot on wind direction

it doesn't flap at all but the adjusting mechanism is stiff on the move due to the extra pressure

I'm 6 foot and don't put it right up
 
Having tried the oe GS screen, the oe GSA screen, the MRA Vario, and now the Puig Touring screen, the only one that really works for me is the Puig.

Do you feel you need the extra wunderlich screen support in combination with the puig?

I don't bother with additional brackets because I do adjust the screen up (motorways) and down (everything else) quite a lot. Screen does wobble a bit at times, but not enough to cause me any concern.

I've just fitted the Cymarc brackets as I found the wobbling a bit disconcerting on my Puig I( think you can just make them out in the attached photo). It is an excellent screen though :thumb2

Morning all

Just wondering what advances have been made regarding extending/extended windscreens since the last post on this thread in 2015
At 6'6" and doing longer trips, I am looking to get something sorted in the not too distant future to deal with the buffeting.
Slouching down behind the standard windscreen on my 2006 GSA is not having a great effect on my back :rolleyes:
 
My brother has a Givi Airflow on his 2010 GS. He's 6' 10" and reckons he has very little buffeting up to 90mph, he's very happy with it.

I'm the runt of the family at 6' 5" and have put an MRA Varioscreen on my brand new Rallye, that works pretty well too.
 
I have the Givi Highflow. I'm 6ft 3in tall. It's a great screen. Very good quality and doesn't need the Cymarc brackets. Almost no buffeting or wind noise. I can ride with the visor up on the motorway in most conditions.

In the recent hot weather I had it on the low setting to get better ventilation, which was bit noisier but a lot cooler.

Highly recommended if you are tall.
