I like the "feel" offered by the BWM GS gloves,so much so that I've stopped using any other gloves, they're great until the temperature drops (even with heated grips & handguards) and offer no resistance to moisture whatsoever

So I've been looking for gloves that offer good "feel" a little bit more warmth and some resistance to rain,I've come up with these Dainese s.p.a. gloves and @ £29.95 I thought they were worth a go,they are waterproof, warm and comfortable - so far so good:D picked them up @ Robt Bevan's in Cardiff.

And they appear to have no obvious crash protection, whatsoever.....

It always strikes me as anomalous that so few Winter glubs have proper crash protection when Winter is the season during which you're, arguably, more likely to come off your bike than any other.

Gloves are like helmets. Two jobs to do. Prevent you being crushed, squashed, splatted or crunched. And secondly....but much more importantly....prevent you from abrading your precious skin covering off along the road. The second is not only much more likely in any given accident to the hands but much more serious as well, because although if the bones of your hands get crushed etc it is serious; if the skin is lost the function of the hand is not likely to fully survive even an otherwise adequate technical repair to bones, joints and tendons.

So prepare oneself ATGATT to prevent hand injury but concentrate particularly on abrasion protection. I'd speculate that the carbon fibre mad max knuckle-duster aspect of many of these glubs is more for marketing than proven efficacy.

For my money what I really envisage being appropriate would be a Kevlar textile glove continuous woven in one piece.....like those comfy french briefs (ie with no seams)............, with elk-skin (kangaroo skin even better, beaver tail best) on top and a Nomex lining maybe.

No such thing? Nearly...this:-

Perhaps so and I'm sure that for the majority of people that holds good. However, given that the integrity of my skeleton is severely compromised by a lack of bone density and that I have, as yet, no intention of giving up riding like an ever so slightly ageing hooligan, I'm looking for as much impact protection as I can get.

Interestingly, I have a friend who came off his VFR after a stag / bike interface last year. He'd always subscribed to the view that he didn't need impact protection on the back of his hands, until he rolled and his flailing knuckles hit the road. He was subsequently glad of the protection which his HG Master gloves had offered, but recognised that even more would have been better.

So far, the best I've seen are Belstaff Thermo Sports, but since they're no longer manufactured they're being retailed at the full £109 when you can get them. Having already bought the slightly less insulated Dri Sports for some £80, I'm somewhat loth to fork out another 100 quid on gloves at this time.

However, if anyone sees any good deals on Thermo Sports......(unlikely, I know....:( )

Prefer these myself, those Dianese mentioned earlier look like summer glove,

Point taken Mike,so to summarise then........apart from the ventilated plastic knuckle protectors of the GS gloves the Dainese I posted a pic of offer slightly more protection than GS gloves, which is probably not a lot:rolleyes:

Dainese antartic

Anyone interested in a pair of brand new Dainese Antartic gloves. Size XL, black, Gore Tex (waterproof) with crash protection . Perfect condition. Wore them 30 min's only before I realized they were a little too small. I don't think you can get any better/warmer.

I just have to check the original price on my invoice. In the meantime, offers are welcome ([email protected]).

Cheers
