A beautiful day, two photo rally points done, and on my way through Carlow en route to another point before heading home.
One broken and bent bike and a stunned, bruised and battered aged person having been taken out on a roundabout, being hit in the left pannier and sliding into and hitting the curb.
I put myself in a vulnerable position and paid the price. A 50:50 incident.
Gaffer tape and an adjusted riding position let me get the photo and limp home.
Left shoulder aching, ice packs and Ibuprofen being applied and taken.
Tomorrow and tomorrows to come will be sore, but thankfully nothing broken.
First major incident on 48 years of biking and it happened so easily.
Be careful out there.

Schit Nudie just saw this! You were always erring on the side of caution before we split and went our separate ways

Davy and I were lucky! We were slipping on out of Greystones when a Garda Jeep came up the Hill behind us running their blues I'd got caught at lights and Davy was a couple of hundred metres ahead

SO I pulled over and when he drove by I thought "Sure that's Grand! he's after Davy!" :aidan:aidan:aidan

Then he drove on by and Two Garda cars stopped and had a yarn whilst the traffic waited :blagblah

Later on I took the lead when traffic stopped on the M50 and introduced Davy to some "tactical " filtering :D

basically if I fitted through he knew he could!!

A sad day but a fitting send off for a Very Nice Man!

Jeez, glad you survived Nudie, hopefully all will heal well. I saw your riding style 1st hand on that Tipp trip a few years back and you were a carefull rider so just goes to show how easily any of us can come a cropper. Hope to meet up with you on the road again some time.

Sorry to read about your accident. Mind to get yourself well checked, you know at our age......

Let us know what the bike needs, you never know what is lying around. LB

Sorry to hear that Nud1e. We might see you at the meeting tomorrow evening at get the full low down from you. I.e. If you are mobile enough and up for it.

still sore, very sore

The damage discovered so far, mostly from sliding into the curb.

Front panel carrier and headlight vertical aim control
Top cover
Low beam headlight and lamp cover
Indicator body and clear lens
MRA screen - probably won't replace as it didn't do what I wanted it to do and I have a GS and a GSA screens in the garage
Headlight protector - don't think it will polish out
RID - need to test, but did note that the cable sheathing is in poor condition. The clock is working but the fuel and oil gauges weren't.
Broken spotlight - may be repairable.
Damage to beak, paint and same fastener mounts - touch up paint and epoxy putty
Broken mount on instrument carrier - a suitable screw and epoxy putty
Left pannier buckled and panniers frame bent - this will have to wait until the ribs feel better and the soft tissue is less tender.

Could be the photo distorting it but to my eye the grab rail and rear rack are not lined up at 90 degrees to the wheel, possible subframe damage? I reckon good chance of it being a write off if going via insurance on a bike of this vintage as theres a lot similar appear on copart and similar.

Hard luck Nud1e :comfort
Glad to hear you're not seriously injured. The bike can be repaired.....
Get well soon

A friend of mine who has a habit of falling off always proclaims "sure they're only plastic & metal, they can be fixed or replaced"

Walking away from the Plastic & Metal is what's important. Glad to hear that your ok.

sore survivor

glad you walked away relatively ok. I might have some of the indicator and screen stuff in the garage if you are stuck.

well, how is the bod? Recovering, I hope?

The yellow bruising is going, the cracked ribs are healing and the dull headache disappeared over the weekend.
Memory has cleared as well so I'm thinking that I was concussed.
Looking at the GPS track, I was doing 34kph in the roundabout when he hit me and pushed the bike to 55kph and flipped me clear off the bike.
Waiting on an insurance accessor before I can start ordering the parts and straightening the pannier and pannier frame. Lot of big and small breaks but everything replaceable or repairable.

that GPS data could be interesting for the Insurance Bod

If you were concussed Its likely wise to be adding your lid to that list!!!

Keep on Healing Michael!

Glad to hear you are on the mend. The ribs could be sore for a while....To get away with no broken limbs is a great bonus. Best wishes.

.......................

Good to hear & good to meet that Fri in sombre circumstances - there might have been more to be sombre about if things worked out differently.
Continue healing.

Sorry to hear about your off Nudie but very glad to learn that you're mending :thumb2
