Well the 03 R1150GSA is 7 years old. The outer sheathing seems to be more of a rubber than a plastic and it is breaking off in bits as time passes by.

Anybody else have the same problem?

Best method of repair!
Remove connection spades and recover with a new sheathing, wrap exposed wires with self-amalganating tape or summit else!

I haven't noticed on my 10 year old R1150 - there again, I don't suppose it gets so hot here in S.Wales. If it happened on my bike I would probably just get some cable ties out to keep everything tidy. The wiring insulation itself should be fine.

If you don't like the look, get some of that spiral wrap in a colour you like to cover it up. What the eye can't see...

I use whatever colour insulation tape I happen to have in my toolbox at the time.

Right now I believe it's green :D Once that's gone I'll have to use the white one.

So long as the wire isn't bare you should be ok.

My 2000 1150 is the very same. All that loom covering stuff has just rotted away, very little of it left now. I have used self-amalgamating tape in the areas that might be prone to chafing, and a few small ty-raps to tidy up.

Should see mine , its a 94 1100gs and thers not much left.
And it smells like wet dogs sometimes.
Friend to one and all Insulation tape.

In my dealer days i remember BM changing looms under warranty on a couple of bikes due to this. It was supposedto be down to UV light on the probably enviro friendly material. I expect excessive cleaning or perhaps over cosseting with duvets may have the same effect:D:D

In fact a whole BM plastics can make a natty line in plastic sandwich boxes in a future life. Perhaps theres life in R12's yet:augie
