Me again, starting to make a nuisance of myself now.

It's only November and I'm already fed up with banging my knuckles cleaning the 'unprotected' wheel rims and spokes on my GS.

Given that I keep the bike outside, ride the bike through the year (salt, sh1t etc) I was wondering whether there is a standard conversion I can make to some wheels that are much easier to keep clean (and hopefully sell/swap my spoked wheels in the process). Maybe I can fit standard R1100R wheels or ones that are even easier to clean?

Any ideas, deals, advice or recommendations out there?

ACF50 used very sparingly and applied with a brush is good.

Just DONT get it on your tyres....

If you're sellin the spoked rims, i'll be interested :thumb

Mr Dastardly

You can have the spoked rims & wheels if you can source and fit me a replacement set of 'easy to clean' alloys for the bike. I don't even care if it costs me a few quid I just REALLY want some wheels that I can clean quickly and that will take a bit of salt n sh1t!. The chances of me taking the bike out 'scrambling' are pretty slim so I don't need the benefit of spoked wheels. Green laning is my limit and I suspect most standard wheeels will take that?

Email me at [email protected] and I'll get back to you with some more specific contact details if you are interested in a deal.

Spoke to Alloy

HI there know what you mean exactly about the poxey finish on the spokes.
Mine's a 1995 with no protection whatsoever. Here's my thoughts for your consideration

I put on a pair of 3 spoke R1100RT wheels as i was running an RT at the same time.

If your swapping permenantly you'll need :
Wheels/tyres X2
Speedo drive
Rear wheel space washer / RT wheels
Some say you should change the front ABS ring but I didn't and it still seems to work ok for me.
Rear disc mounting plate, and screws X2 (great, disc is perm. attached to bike, 4 bolts for rear wheel "a la" road bike)

Thats about it, renew the disc mounting bolts if needed

I've kept the spokes fitted up so I can change back so needed a pair of front discs and ABS ring just need to remove the rear disc mounting plate again for the fatter hub on the spokes.

Motorworks had all the gear (I had the wheels already tho) so I had three discs and 2 abs rings and rear disc plate&screws, speedo drive all for @ £200.

Upon original transition I thought the smaller front wheel turning in quicker had made a huge difference to the handling but following a front wheel puncture put the spokes back on with the old tourances and even in the wet they were just superb so can't say it makes "ANY" difference, only cleaning.

I have the 3 spoke alloys, one wipe and there done, maybe same wheel as the early 16v K's.

Looks better too, I'd done a few mods as well such as losing the beak and a putting on a cockpit screen.

If you want some piccies let me know, :beerjug:

Mr Ragls

A couple of jpegs wud be great. Send to [email protected].

What I really need is an outfit that'll do the conversion for me!

Only downside is that I've just fitted (2K miles ago) a new set of Avon Distanzias so it looks like I'm looking at £200 for the 'conversion kit', plus +£X for some replacement wheels/tyres unless I can swap with somebody!? Maybe I'm better buying a powerwasher and some knuckle protectors!?

Or just not cleaning them....

Seriously, if you spend not £££ but maybe 2hrs cleaning the spokes with wire wool (that's for both wheels) then cleaning subsequently is just a quick shampoo & rinse...2 minutes. I did this 18 months ago, it's all it takes, unless you're as keen as Tarka or Blues n Twos....
