Hi , i have the starcom digital wired to my gs , this system is brilliant as have no real issues with apart from all the wires.
Thinking about changing to bluetooth ( scala / G5 etc) but have in the past had the scala rider sets. These were good but very annoying with the delay in vox ie you had to make an inital sound to wake up the system ,so chatting was difficult or comments on the view or ride.. With the starcom you never have this issue.I use this system only for rider to pillion for our euro trips , me and the wife chat to each other as if sat at the table , no gaps etc , my worry is that even that bluetooth has moved forward is it much better and does it have the same issues.
Going to the nec to see different systems but know that salesmen can exaggerate a little , so ask for Tosser advice .:thumb2

I use the sena smh10 for rider to pillion and rider to rider fantastic kit used it to Spain this year, battery life is long and sound quality is excellent, I also use it with my iPhone for music and phone and at nav, would def recommend.

Sena SMH10 for me too, tried Autocom a couple of times, got sick of the wires real quick. Bike to bike works fine, pairs to Zumo fine. Listen to music from the Zumo or chat to a mate on another bike for hours, the SMH10 will keep going all day and then some.

I had an interphone F4 which was brilliant until it got water in the unit.:blast They've just replaced it with the F5 which has had nothing but good reviews, but I've not used it yet, so will report back once I have.:thumb

Would agree with all above, but sena system is flawed, if more than 1 channel . Used on recent trip to Germany with another couple, changing between channels proved very hit and miss, after 2 days we gave up and only used it between rider and pillion. If that's all you need it to then it is perfect.

Hoseman have you done the latest firmware update if not that may be the reason it didn't work so well, another reason why I chose the sena for the updates.

Had F3. Good until 18months old. Battery time diminishing, connection rider-pillion becameproblematic as was charging unit,. The achilles heel of the unit is mechanical failure of unit's socket after a period of use.Too many tiny connections. Just not robust enough for bike.

Replaced it with a starcom digital. Excellent piece of kit. OK wires a bit of nuisance but performance and reliability more than compensates. So I did the opposite of your contemplated course of action.

Have brand new replacement F3 provided by importers still in packet.

Thanks

Many thanks for all your answers , will now , digest , research , again Tossers to the rescue .........:beerjug:

Take it then that the Sena F3 and F4 do not have the delay in chatting ...................? as this is my main concern :comfort

Should be no delay in chatting as you leave the mic's open all the time, reduces battery time but stops 'clipping' of speech. I tried the bluetooth but in the end went back to wired (Starcom) just couldn't get the bluetooth to work as an all rounder like the wired systems, better at some things but not the all rounder of a wired kit. For instance my Sena was great rider to pillion until the Sat Nav chipped in followed by a 20 second delay until I could get rider to pillion again. Wired systems will do it all at the same time, or at least do everything we need.

Thanks ..................thats the same reason i went back to wired .....nec try it and see .........if it wasnt for the wires ...... in Itay and the Starcom lead played up but fortunate had a spare. :thumb

The impression I get in comparing the wired and blutooth systems is:

Wired: You'll stick with what you get, because there haven't been any real advancements in PMR communications

Blutooth: You'll get a good one, which will be superceded by a better one in a year's time.

Blutooth coms between bikes is so good, without the need for any of that "Broadsword calling Danny-Boy" shite.......... :rob

Re the Satnav chipping in and stopping conversation, that is of course what it’s meant to do, but mostly maddening (you could set the 276c to just beep as a reminder…). I turned Bluetooth off on the Zumo on our last trip, missed the odd turn as a result but never missed a motorway turn so no drama.

Trouble is, you can’t pick and choose what you get from the Zumo, its all or nothing :( another issue with Garmin satnavs…

We tried PMR and intercoms years back, despite my best efforts everyone bought different radios and intercoms, volume levels were all over the place and it all cost more than Bluetooth does now. And don't forget the dreaded PTT button  Bluetooth can be left on all the time if you want and its duplex meaning you can bother talk at the same time like on a phone :thumb2
